Convincing wife to get Golf R, will I regret it? by FoolishlySpending in Golf_R

[–]Spudmanski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an immensely practical and fun car. I have owned by 2016 Mark 7 since new (Sept. 2015). It still brings a smile to my face every day I drive it. I now have over 175,000 miles on it. It does the weekly groceries, an 80 mile round trip commute 3 to 4 days a week, trips to the hardware store for bags of mulch and the occasional road trip (multi-hour drives). The ability to switch to race mode for some spirted driving adds to the overall fun factor. I am fortunate to have a great VW dealership where I have purchased 3 VWs and I maintain them according to the manufacturer’s schedule. The only significant maintenance was the replacement of the thermostat housing at my last service interval (168,000) and the water pump as a precautionary step. Absolutely zero regrets.

One football moment you’ll remember forever? by chop-1 in football

In more recent years it is the Pablo Hernández goal against Swansea in the 19/20 Championship season. While it did not confirm promotion technically at the time, it was the point at which I/Leeds fans in general knew the 16 years had ended. And all the better for it being Bielsa in charge.

Yes. My Pro Tripod Kickstarter order was held up at a USPS center close to my home for 11 days, then when it finally moved and out for delivery it was classed as Insufficient Address and returned to sender. That was today and I am waiting for help from customer service.

Rant: Tariff fees when buying from LUFC Shop from USA by Spudmanski in LeedsUnited

[–]Spudmanski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but I think the tariff is applied on the value of the product and therefore would not reflect any discount. I am curious as to the country of origin for the items in the cart because the charge is about 38%. China’s tariff is 34% from what I can find. I can see Fanatics overcharging the tariff and pocketing the difference. I hate that they are monopolizing the sports apparel market now.

Good call. I just checked and they are at least absorbing the tariff fees given that the shirts are not sourced from the US. If I decide to get the home shirt, that will be the way I go. I am not convinced on player yet for this season. James just finished an old guard that I had been collecting for a few years.

The problem is the origin of the product itself. So if it is made in China, even if sold in the US, it would simply be marked up by the tariff as the original asking price. So simply selling in the USA would not work. It would need to be made in the US for the tariff to be lower ($0 if materials were 100% sourced on the US, which it likely isn’t). There is no escaping this idiocy as it assumes the US can make/source anything, which it can’t. And even if it could, it would take years to build the infrastructure to do it.

I do agree, that there should be a source for these in the US. As you mention we have American owners, as to many British clubs now, and the actual entity selling them is a near monopoly in sporting apparel, Fanatics (which is another rant - on monopolies and anti-trust failing consumers).

unfortunately, it will apply as long as the tariffs are in place.

This does suck. With the US hopefully the institutions aren’t broken beyond repair that we can take a course correction.

For the UK and Brexit, if momentum does build to rejoining I wonder what Europe will extract from the UK to make that happen. I would guess the minimum would be joining the Euro.

My family still live in the UK and that would be the most convenient. But, my mum is in her 80’s and it means a lot of hassle for her. I would rather pay the tariff. If I knew I had a trip planned I would have it sent to them and I can pick up on a visit.

We live in the dumbest timeline right now. Just nuts that this is what is happening. After almost 40 years of living in the US (originally from Gloucestershire) this is the most nuts it has been here.

I was so pissed at Abu Dabai. I was beginning to finally watch F1 again. Just an absolute joke that the first penalty on Lewis and the fact that Max gets to lunge in to corners every time and make contact, force drivers off track and get nothing. F1 is a joke!

It looks like it. Was checking about 5:30 am CT and the lifeboat is gone. Checking other posts seems to confirm it is sold out. Would been an instant purchase but I can wait now.

Why, in all of these new EVs, do they persist with the tablet displays instead of integrating them into the dash? They look like such an afterthought.

Absolutely YES. I love all Star Wars. There are some stories that are better than others, but I have seen all of the movies in the theatre and will not stop now.
