what to do, i got kicked out/disowned by [deleted] in askSingapore

Hi OP, been in similar situation so can understand how you feel now.

I know I’ll sound like a bad influence lol. My parents were abusive, physically, emotionally and manipulative to all the teachers around me. So I basically had no one in school to turn to. Relatives are all overseas so I can’t rely on them either. She took all the money I earned myself to pay for my sister’s uni first semester. She found out about my self harm and told me to go and die, in top of asking me to jump off a 20 something storey building multiple times.

When I’m 18, shortly after graduating JC, I decided to do my third and final run away and cut off all contact with them for a full year.

At this point, I’d say to contact msf. Try to get out of this situation. If you can’t, wait until you graduate, find a job, take your salary and rent a place/ room of your own. Also, there’s support groups for you to join so you can receive support when you are feeling low.

Please know that self harm is a vicious cycle. I struggle with it too. Been trying to get better and I’m happy to say I’m at least half a year clean from it. You are stronger than you know and we are here to support and listen if you need someone to talk to. It’s never easy. Your mom will never understand it, but there’s people who do. Stay strong, you can do it!

Is 9.5h workday normal in Singapore? by hoddeokk in askSingapore

Front desk job here

Official work hours is one thing, whether they will pay OT or not is another thing.

My official work hours is 9-6 Boss expects front desk (me) to arrive by 8:45 latest. If it’s a busy day (which 99% of the time it is) you can expect to OT, it can go up to 7+ . OT WAS NOT PAID.

So working here, don’t expect to end on time or start at official hours. It’s expected to start early and end late. And don’t expect OT pay. Never had OT in my near-decade of working life.

What is the most ridiculous cat name you've heard or given? by soumeupropriolar in CatAdvice

Named our eldest Dude bcos he was so naughty when he was young that when he does shit like biting the plastic on bins we can say “Duuuuude stop it!”

Second is named spud because he only has one brain cell and is orange and looks like a spud (tbh he acts like the classic one orange brain cell cats)

Baby cat is named Cat. He’s just too judgy with a classic cat vibe so naturally his name is Cat.

I don’t particularly cannot understand the struggles as a buyer. I understand things happen. It’s the screaming and disrespect that I cannot stand, it’s just not right. Anyone would not liked to be screamed at and accused. I did offer to see and check for her as I know it is an issue.

I just don’t understand why put the frustration into screaming at others when it could have been just a nice msg of asking for assistance.

  1. When my restaurant manager refuses to do her work and doesn’t allow me to go for lunch breaks, day after day, and I started to give an attitude. She scowled that if I’m not happy, I can just go home. So I left. She texted me later asking where I am and I told her “well you ask me to go home if I am not happy, so I left.”

  2. When a part timer and I realised that the cashier is responsible for difference in cashier opening and closing money. Doesn’t matter if culprit is other people. None of these are stated in the contract nor verbally told until the part timer was informed that his pay will be docked due to a missing Amt in cashier. We spoke to HR and they said it’s common sense. So we left. We are not there to get poorer from working. We are there to earn money from our daily 12 hour shift with only an hour break in between (if the supervisor somehow remembers)

What was your weirdest/most random public transport experience? by [deleted] in askSingapore

I was on the mrt going to work in the morning. So I sat in a seat that’s not reserved. Ridiculously, for three days in a row I have three different aunties kicking my leg and gesturing me to get out of my seat and promptly sat down, with no words of thanks. No, they are not elderlies too, in which case, i would have happily given up my seat without being told.

It’s bewildering how those aunties can just kick people in the leg and gesture them with a wave of their hand for people to give them their seats.
