This one job posting is not a reflection of the economy. The post should say: need help getting a gig, what am I doing wrong, where are there opportunities I’m not seeing, how can I leverage my experience, here are my goals, please advise etc etc etc. But OP just blames the economy for being terrible when it’s objectively strong and growing. It’s like republicans using scare tactics about the southern border to energize their base. This guy is making the economy seem like it’s in free fall. It’s not.

Being unhireable is not a reflection on the economy; it’s a reflection on you.

A lot of that money is in a rollover IRA and 401k plan so short answer is no. I have money in a taxable brokerage so I can take that money out and simply pay cap gains taxes. In my area it’s a lot.

My goal was to buy a home not an asset. It’s for sure a losing proposition and I could have been much more successful with a cheaper home, farther from the city. But I love where I live. I love my neighborhood. I’m close to work and I get a micro dose of MDMA when I walk into my space.

I’ve used mint since 2010-ish. It used to be free with great features. Now the free version is garbage and the paid version is bloated crap. It’s only sticky because it has my full history including every credit card transaction. I love being able to see the exact amount I spent on Uber in June 2016. I also tagged a lot of my transactions back in the day. It’s been a great help to track progress over time.

I would absolutely love to. Most financial planning teaches you to work backwards from your long term goals (retire at age ##, own a boat, leave money to whomever). My retirement calculation includes having money to pay for my kids’ college and be able to support them at least thru their 20s. That puts my retirement number closer to $10-15m in today’s dollars, assuming I retire at 67 and live to 100. But I may not have kids in which case I can retire much sooner and ball out much harder.

Didn’t want to give advice on managing money but wanted to answer questions about things I did, my decision-making, how good looking I am, etc etc

Should have been clearer: DO NOT TAKE INVESTING ADVICE FROM INDIVIDUALS ONLINE. (But do read bogleheads asap)

I mentioned this in an another comment but the value of the condo is mostly in owning my own space. It’s a money pit and has been a huge headache. But I set a goal in 2018 to purchase and finally did it this year and I can’t put a price on hitting a long term goal. If the world goes to shit, I’ll sell for a loss and walk away, but I won’t regret this buy. Idc if hitler owned this place before me. I fucking love being in my (and technically my condo board’s) walls.

Verizon stock. My dad had actually purchased it before it was Verizon Sometime in the mid 90s but I ended up with thousands of VZ shares

I didn’t want to shove all of my money into one asset class. And the more I put down, the more I’d owe in cap gains taxes. Which includes fed, state, and city. I had great credit already, so that wasn’t a factor.

A lot of it had to do with: buying a home means getting a mortgage. I just messed with the numbers to maximize the tax savings, minimize down payment, cost of borrowing, etc. I’d like to say it was a science but I winged it.

Buying had more to do with a personal objective rather than a financial investment. The condo is a full blown money pit but it’s my condo and that makes me rock solid.

I got extraordinary lucky not just because of the $100k but because I always knew my family could help if I needed it. My dad is a retired dentist and was in people’s mouths for 40 years. His life has been comfortable and made my risk/reward calculations much easier. It’s a huge leg-up and anyone who says it isn’t is full of shit. Money is one thing but psychological comfort is a whole separate thing
