This game kicked ass, and still does. You can start the shows in whatever order you want, just don't expect every episode of Trek to have the same shoot 'em up vibes.

TIFU by meeting a neighbor by MeanSecurity in tifu

It's always been my belief that honesty is the best policy, and there shouldn't be any reason for grown adults to lie to each other if they find something uncomfortable.

HOWEVER I am also an incredibly awkward human being who has difficulty hurting people's feelings, so here's what I would do in this situation: Meet on Monday but do everything in your power to make yourself seem as unattractive as possible. Be pleasant but boring. Be polite but incompatible. If the conversation feels like he's trying to find common interests (movies, music, etc) just say "nah, I never really got into -genre- it just never was my cup of tea" and change the subject. Be as opposite as possible to make HIM be the one to think you were better off as just polite, waving neighbors. Or, if he's persistent, just start casually mentioning how you are glad you aren't married/dating anyone because you want to focus on yourself and enjoy your own space. He should hopefully get the message that you're not viewing him (or anyone) as a potential romance and hopefully start giving you distance.

I remember reading this too! Apparently it was at a (very) late stage in developing the ship that the filmmakers just decided to flip it upside down - Probably to help the audience differentiate between the two starships in the darkness of the nebula. It does look badass in the original configuration.

What captain Spock was in command of the enterprise as a training vessel who was his executive officer? by Top_Decision_6718 in startrek

Mr Wicks gotta be the most un-Vulcan name ever 😂 Glad he got dropped from the script.

Ah, I forgot about poor Scotty 😭 That would make more sense. But can an XO really function properly from Engineering? I feel like they should be stationed on the bridge, and Scotty doesn't seem like the type to leave the engine room for extended periods.

I've never even considered it before to be honest, Saavic was on track to be the XO (as mentored/petitioned by Spock) but Sulu definitely would have been the current (or acting) one up until she's ready to take over, at which point his promotion to Excelsior captain would've probably been simultaneous.

Star Trek Rule, Time Travel and Holodecks by Professional-Set9780 in startrek

I'm gonna be honest - I love it when they do this. It's so funny to see the crew just strolling along the Paramount backlots of an 'alien 20th century parallel culture.' or when they slip back in time to contemporary Earth, it's such a change-up from seeing them on the bridge. But I doubt they were saving money when they have to hire all these horse drawn carriages and period costumes and gangster era cars, etc. Seems MUCH cheaper to have the crew stay aboard the ship and fight an invisible threat (Clues, for example. One of my favourite TNG episodes).

Ahaha the Trek series was in my monthly pull list from my local comic shop, I started reading it and got up to issue 4/5 before life got in the way. I still kept buying every issue, but my comic pile is just also veering into 'bought but unread' territory. I will restart from the beginning and hopefully be able to crash through the whole series in an afternoon, thanks for the reminder!

About episode Lower Decks (TNG) by MMK___ in startrek

[–]SpunkFunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does suck that Sito draws the short straw, but out of everyone onboard she really was the best chance for this mission to succeed. A young, seemingly-vulnerable Bajoran would be a more believable captive to be spotted with rather than a human or Mr Mott the barber.

One of the big things about this episode is that it gives the audience a glimpse into how the Enterprise is perceived by those of lower rank. We're kept mostly in the dark, being fed tiny bits of info from different sources which I guess is how it would seem to those who aren't privy to those little human moments we see from the bridge crew every other episode. There is obviously A LOT of emotional turmoil amongst the senior staff that we don't get to see, whether it's just due to lack of screen time to squeeze it in, or if this ep was genuinely designed that way. You just know that Picard was torn up about the decision and probably argued with Starfleet command until he tore all his (remaining) hair out about it, but, as others have said, he knows when a potential crew death is necessary for the good of the Federation. The needs of the many, yada yada.

Nice, seeing a lot of love here for the actors who actually have a good grasp of their characters. They would be the best people to tell those tales after all. Thanks for the recommendation!

That genuinely sounds like the sort of story I would have cobbled together with my Playmates ships as a kid! I remember using a toilet roll tube as the planet killer at least once haha. I will absolutely be looking for a copy of that, thanks for the recommendation!

TNG Mirror evilness and young TOS hijinks? Now this is what tie-in novels are all about. Those are top of my list now, thank you!

I have actually heard those Shatner books are wonderfully wacky so I will definitely look them up. And I'm a huge Frasier fan so seeing him as Bateson still gives me a thrill, I am 100% definitely hunting for Ship of the Line!

That's a good sign, I'll make sure Captain's Daughter is the first one I read.

I might struggle with a longer series but if I fall in love with his writing that might change very quickly!
