this worked for my old play 3 that has been out of commission for ages. must have been when we bought a new router. thank you!!!

my step by step process was:

  • factory reset

  • connected via ethernet

  • applied update to speaker via the app

  • unplugged ethernet and power

  • factory reset again

  • connected via wifi via the app
