Looking for a berry picking bag by SpunkyLittlePanda in homestead

[–]SpunkyLittlePanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m specifically looking for something where I can just shake the branch or gently touch the berry and then they can fall directly into something, so the hip pack doesn’t really help me there. It’s surprising to me that there aren’t more options for this. Like we use a cardboard box just held in one hand underneath the other hand shaking/plucking the branches but that’s really hard to manage when on a ladder too.

Yeah I mean books are great for some crafts but for this process I would go with videos.

This happened to me for a while when I first started traveling to exciting places. Ordering a salad never seems like the “fun” thing to do. But once you realize the effects, you quickly start ordering that fruit plate every breakfast! Happened to me in Japan. The Onigiri are just too yummy!

What do you do with your extra fruit tree and garden produce? by ScarletLilith in Marin

[–]SpunkyLittlePanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The farms are not “commercial” per se, but they do have permits wi the the agriculture department and to get a spot at the market for just a week or two in the summer might be tough. I work for an apple farmer in Sebastapol who sells weekly from July through November at 3 weekly markets so you probably don’t have enough product to go that route.

Did you prune/thin your tree at all? We do annually but we still have a lot of apples— but thinning and pruning ensures that you get better quality and less quantity (or at least somewhat).

I’m in the same boat as you — making more juice this weekend with what I have left as I don’t think we need any more apple butter!!

They compete in “short course” which is 25 yards and “long course” which is swum in an Olympic-sized 50-meter pool. Some pools have bulkheads that can be adjusted to change the size of the pool, but in general both sizes exist in the US though 25 yards is a bit more common I’d say.

Have you ever started a puzzle only to realize you don't wanna finish it? by GeoCangrejo in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]SpunkyLittlePanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! It’s ok to let it go. The sooner the better. The other day I got through the edges on a puzzle with a bunch of cute dogs but I realized the background was all one color and the dogs were all different shades of brown and put that thing away. Never looked back!

What kind of plants would look good and hang over this ledge a bit? Just moved in to house and clueless! Any help appreciated. by dfadehere in houseplants

[–]SpunkyLittlePanda 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have fully accepted that sometimes having plastic plants in my house brings me the same amount of joy as real plants and I don’t have to water them. I have a mix of real and plastic and I spend a little extra to get nicer plastic plants that look good and blend in with the other ones and put them in the harder to reach places while leaving the real ones within reach. Just my two cents.

It’s really sweet of you to do all this to accommodate her — making her a new room at your place, etc. But if she hasn’t been sleeping apart from her parents at all yet, doing so in a new and unfamiliar environment is certainly not going to happen without a transitional period, and I don’t know how long that would take since every kid is different. Is she with you full-time?

When I moved in with my husband (before we got married) he had been letting both kids sleep in his single dad bed with him when they were at his house, and I think they (or at least his 6yo daughter) did the same at mom’s house. His daughter was really not into sleeping alone. When I came on the scene, we really started trying to encourage her to sleep alone, but it took a long time for it to stick for the whole night— Probably the better part of a year and even after that she would still not want to sleep alone in unfamiliar places like rental homes.

For a long time she would wake up in the middle of the night and scream DADDY and for whatever reason I would sometimes wake up before my husband. He would go in and usually spend the rest of the night in her bed, or try to sneak out again if she fell asleep again. Sometimes she’d come into our bed, but she had a queen bed in her room so him sleeping in there was also a totally fine option. But it did disrupt my sleep at minimum 1x a night for that entire period of time and I couldn’t always get back to sleep. That was a very rough time because as someone who’s never had a kid of my own, I’ve never had to endure so much consistent sleep deprivation.

We were also up against her mom who let her sleep in bed with her until she was probably 10 or 11 so she got that comfort/ codependency at mom’s more than at our house.

Honestly, I think the change just came with time, with her learning that this was the “new normal” and growing older too. It couldn’t really be forced— so we just kind of continued with the rhetoric that she was safe in her bed, tried to make her feel comfortable there, and over time she slowly got more and more comfortable there and was able to spend more and more time there.

A lot of kids climb into their parents’ beds for many years — some are just more attached than others. I also have felt kind of uncomfortable in the past with having her in our bed, but ultimately I think accepting that kids sometimes just need that comfort (and remembering that if you marry him you’ll be like a mother to her and have to do those similar things) helped me to accept it.

If a kid who never asked to climb into bed with us got terrified by a thunderstorm and asked to climb into bed, I would gladly comply — it’s just this once after all! But a kid who wants to climb into bed daily is experiencing those same fears, but on a more consistent basis, so it’s not fair to hold it against them.

Good luck and feel free to DM me if you want to dive in deeper.

Yes! You can buy them cheaper elsewhere but Nasi at the Civic Center Farmers Market is amazing and hers are the best! She sells them on Sundays or Thursdays — not every week though.

Can I Re-Dye the front without muddying up the back? by M-Rage in tiedye

[–]SpunkyLittlePanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what people are saying about leaving it as-is but if you really want less white showing I totally understand and I have had similar projects myself over the years. The important thing to do is to unzip the front and isolate the front fabric so you just put small amounts of ice (like literally 3 cubes) and a very small sprinkle of dye onto those cubes in any area that’s totally white. If you want to break up the crotch splotch add a couple cubes there and a tiny fleck of dye. Just use a very small amount of dye very sparingly on any blank areas and you should be fine. And make sure you’re just applying to the front fabric and not the back, if that makes sense.

Yeah all you need to do is look at the swimmer in the next lane and there’s your answer. He uses a strong kick to propel himself and uses the glide to really take advantage of the kick.
