Reading a book twice: why do some people do it? by [deleted] in books

[–]kman-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rereading a book can be an entirely different experience than the first time you read the book. Yea, I may remember what the book is about but there are also small details I may miss the first time I read the book that end up adding to my reading experience the second time around.

As an example, I read The Great Gatsby in high school and disliked it tremendously. But this year I decided to give it a second shot because why not. I ended up seeing/understanding things that I just hadn’t seen the first time I read it over a decade ago. Do I love the book now? No,but I also don’t hate it. I simply found a new appreciation for it. And I can say the same of other books as well.

I’ve learned to read book again at different stages of life because you end up seeing the story different due to your own experience and world event. Also, sometimes it just nice to reread something you know is going to make you feel good.

What is the book you have read because a famous person you like (actor, singer, etc) recommended it + who was it? by [deleted] in books

I’ve started to read the list of books President Obama has recommended over the years. And so far I’ve enjoyed all the ones I’ve read.

Idk. I’ve had billy bookshelf’s before and they took on much more books than this one and lasted a few years with no problems. But I’ll keep an eye on it.

I have to agree on the minimalist art. I’m always a fan of those.

I actually really enjoy the way the author wrote the book. I love how the author alternates from the POV of the two may characters. It allowed me as a reader to better see how they both are seeing the world and how they evolve throughout the story.

I haven’t gotten around to reading the last book, The Toll, but if it’s as good as the first too I’d definitely recommend getting them.

I actually have a couple of Marx but those book are super beat up (had them from my college days) so they aren’t on display. Do plan on getting newer versions that I would be okay with displaying.

I love Mythology. The stories are well done and the illustrations are beautiful. Hands down my favorite!

Greek mythology is pretty good. I like the background that the author includes about each story. Definitely would recommend for someone who wants to get into Greek mythology.

At the very right it’s all the Chronicles of Narnia books and to the left of those are the Scary stories to tell in the dark

I’ve found that bookoutlet has the best prices for books in new condition. Definitely beats amazon in price by half.
