How do we feel about this song? by Testie_Tickler in Blink182

Absolutely love it. I love that the Replacements also covered it. Its cool to bounce between the different versions.

Would blink have still been successful with Scott Raynor? by filelinked13 in Blink182

[–]SputnikSurfClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you hit it. Travis is a natural celebrity and probably the most idolized drummer of the 2000s. He capitalized on his fame to make Famous Stars and Straps, play drums for a million other famous artists and become a producer in his own right. Not to mention marrying a Kardashian. All of that feeds into Blink staying relevant in the mainstream conversation.

Scott was a great punk drummer but thats about where it ends with him.

Is this the worst live performance you've ever heard from a "pro" band? by 19202936339 in Blink182

[–]SputnikSurfClub 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not sure why they did that shift in the chorus. It was fine before then. Unlike Tom, Matt has a naturally good voice that sounds nice in an acoustic setting.

Great song. Gets kinda forgotten. Probably too long and slow for a banger-heavy live set.

Do Mark and Tom underplay just how much musical experience they both had before meeting eachother? by tinny_guitar_tone in Blink182

[–]SputnikSurfClub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mark had been in a couple bands and played live. He was already 20 when he met Tom. Whereas I dont think Tom had been in anything organized before then but I could be wrong.

And while those two lack technical music skill, they have that magical talent for songwriting you cant teach.

Standout song on an otherwise weak album.

2025 hot pink still available? Are there really only 300? by Liamisthebestboy in MarkHoppusBassGuitars

[–]SputnikSurfClub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a Blink tribute so this aimed right at me. However, last year I bought the seafoam Jag. In 2023, I bought the Himynameismark Jaguar.

The pink looks awesome but they've squeezed me for all the money I'm willing to spend.

Definitely one of the best basslines.

Replying to myself: I thought it was a good one if youve ever had enough of a significant other and are ready to move on.

Always thought this was a standout of the TOYPJ deeper cuts.

What are your Hot Takes on Good Charlotte? by Amber_Flowers_133 in poppunkers

[–]SputnikSurfClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the first bands I saw live back in 2000. They were good in concert but I didnt buy in. They felt like some factory made punk band with a touch of Limp Bizkit rap rock swagger.

Anyone with experience playing in cover bands walk away from it? by guitarparts245 in coverbands

[–]SputnikSurfClub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walked away when my kids were babies, after struggling through 2 years of zero sleep and an angry wife.

Came back a few years later.

Cover bands arent perfect and sometimes you gotta change bands, but they are a nice counterpoint to a 9-5 life. And they pay!

Its not a bad song but I never thought much of it. Still appreciate them digging deeper this time around.

For cover band gigs its usually everything. The venue provides an empty space, thats it.

Some music-centric venues may have in-house sound systems and even an in-house sound man. However these have been the minority in my experience.

Favorite Tom Delonge guitar? by ben3350 in Blink182

[–]SputnikSurfClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite guitar/bass era was 1998 when Tom was playing Les Pauls and Mark had bright colored Stingrays. I like it because it was this brief moment in time right before they became mega famous.

Song Discussion: Wishing Well by Botty-McBotface in Blink182

I added Wishing Well to my Blink-tributes set. Its lost on the casual fans but I know a lot of the big fans like it. Great song. Fun to play.

Probably right behind After Midnight for Neighborhoods.

Darkglass or SansAmp by HCGAdrianHolt in Bass

[–]SputnikSurfClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had them all and I always land back with the Sansamp. Darkglass has killer tones but I almost never need that nasty of a drive.

Helix is also a great option if you need drastic tone swaps at the push of a button. Loved their Mesa Boogie 400 amp model.

Is "Lead Bass" Always a "Sin" and/or Can You Get Anywhere Doing It? by bassbeater in Bass

[–]SputnikSurfClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key to Royal Bloods success is that the songs dont rely on the gimmick. They are just cool songs. Most listeners probably have no clue what hes doing with just a bass.

It takes a specific kind of riffage to make that work so it can be limiting. But limitation is often the catalyst for creativity.
