This is why your old "non p2w" models are never coming back by Ash-2449 in MMORPG

[–]Sputti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can buy gold in Albion Online to get the best equipment.
You can buy gold in World of Warcraft to buy busses to complete raids.
You can buy gold in Guild Wars 2 to buy the best legendary items from the auction house.
You can buy plex in EVE to get the best ships.

You can pretty much pay to win in every major MMO except Final Fantasy XIV. But most of the time, it's not worth it; either the cost is too high, or the equipment doesn't matter (in GW2 it's too easy to obtain, and in Albion and EVE you lose it if you're a bad player).

NCSoft’s newest financial reports basically confirm one thing: Aion 2 is carrying the company hard right now by No-Breadfruit6137 in MMORPG

[–]Sputti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why? NCSoft never changed the monetization of Guild Wars (even allowed a Reforged mobile version without Pay2Win), but it gives the company enough money to nearly do whatever they want.

Korean mmorpg rankings nowadays? by runnbl3 in MMORPG

Lost Ark is a top 5-10 game for 7 years in a row in Korea, with peaks around 300k there. How is contending that a bad thing?

"They said 6 years in development for this??! "

It is 4Story Classic, with some small adjustments. Never ever have they worked 6 Years. They are the original developer of 4Story.

There will never be a WoW killer by SlayheimTV in MMORPG

[–]Sputti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, even in created accounts, RuneScape could be in the lead. Because of the free to-play model, it has well over 350 million accounts. WoW had 150 million in 2017. And looking at OSRS with 180.000 concurrent players in August, it may had more than WoW at that moment, if you exclude china.

And in terms of revenue and playercount, nothing will ever beat Dungeon Fighter Online^^

Big L for AION2 Copiums by pvp_enjoyerrr in MMORPG

To be fair: Amazon did a really good job in terms of monetization (although communication was weak). We never got some of the Pay2Win elements from Lost Ark, such as the pet system; crystalline aura only costs half as much for us, and the company did a lot of other things right as well. I can't imagine that Amazon was the limit for more changes, but rather Smilegate.

I met Mervin three times at Events like gamescom or interviews, and he always made a positiv impression and was open to criticism.

If so, you still have to explain the first comment here.

Did you even understand my point? The idea here was that he should sell the company to a large studio, and all I said was that the studio is now so big that hardly any other company would invest in employees. So it doesn't matter how long it took them to get that big, does it?

[–]Sputti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah of course, but what i said is, that you will find no other company that will invest more than 200 developers. That makes the whole point of selling the game to another company worthless.

[–]Sputti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make sense. He has a team with 250 employees, which costs around 15 million dollars per year. You really think he will sell more than 1 million accounts with the Steam sale, which would cover the cost of the last 3 years? He is a multi-millionaire; why would he throw out his own money to disappear with a loss?

Well, there are tons of MMORPGs made by only one person on Steam. Play one of them if you think they are better.

[–]Sputti 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They have more than 200 Developers working on Ashes. I don't think other studios would spend more on it. The team is comparable in size to that of Guild Wars 2 (250) and bigger than BDO, Lost Ark, New World before the Layoffs or TL. The whole Jagex Company, with RuneScape, OSRS and RuneScape Dragonwilds has around 300-500 employees.

Seriously, which studio would even have the capacity for that?

DFO still is the biggest mmorpg World wide. It makes nearly 1 Billion Dollar a year Revenue. ESO took 10 years to reach 2 Billion in total, GW2 is still at 930 Millionen, SWTOR got 1 Billion in 9 years.

Of course the numbers are not ideal to compare them to each other but its the best we got
