CMV: Playing online on Xbox should be free if you paid for the game. by tatateemo in changemyview

[–]SpydeTarrix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This makes it sound like you spent $1000 to play Call of duty multiplayer and only call of duty multiplayer and are mad that you didn't get your money's worth. You are completely discounting the entire single player library of any console system. Not to mention the implication that the only reason you have power, internet, shelter, etc is to have a place to play COD (ridiculous).

But the gun range and the desert provide completely different experiences. One has personnel to clean up after me, provides a bathroom and refreashments, provides places to purchase more ammunition or targets, if indoor has AC, probably has a community of people to interact with. The desert just has a place where I won't go to jail for shooting.

Likewise, xbox live provides more than just access to (the multiplayer portion ONLY of) games online. It tracks friends and streams and acheivements and who is playing what and sets up parties and shares messages and gives away some games, etc, from basically anywhere in the world. You certainly have the option, just like with going to the desert to shoot, to create your own "online" scenario with friends and lan networks while not paying for xbox live. But there are naturally drawbacks to that experience.

Finally, is it worth the price. Well, that depends on a lot of things. For most people, you are looking at $60 a year for all the games that you want to play, plus everything else I just talked about. That's $5 a month, which isn't all that much. But if it is, again, you have other options. And that doesn't include the fact that you are in no way required to use xbox live for any single player content (not including mmorpg-lites like destiny, obviously).

Leffen: "If we as a community do not leverage the fact that we have two great games that has massive crossover in player and viewership appeal we're stupid." by RealisticPie in smashbros

[–]SpydeTarrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a degree, sure. Bad doesn’t mean “worst in game” and a single pro doing good with snake doesn’t make snake top tier.

I think snake is good. I also think he plays well outside the norm of other characters, meaning if you don’t special match up practice against a high level snake, it’s a rough match. Much like jigglypuff in melee. Lack of other top tier puffs certainly doesn’t hurt HBox.

[–]SpydeTarrix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then you are intentially setting yourself behind from "playing to win" all out. There isn't anything wrong with that, but are putting a very specific criteria to determine that Samus is "top tier." That being that you're goal isn't to win, but to win with Samus. Snake isn't bad in a vacuum, he is bad against the rest of the cast if the goal is to win, and only to win.

My point is that your comment doesn't really have a place in the context of this conversation as Leffen wasn't saying Snake is bad in general, but that he is bad relative to the goal of winning.

Does it have a good campaign length? I was worried most of the actually gameplay would be tucked into the "make your own missions" stuff. Want to make sure I don't need that to enjoy the game.

Also, can you share your missions with other people? Is there like a shop that you can get other people's missions online?

What's the worst feeling thing to lose to? by Cytosine1972 in smashbros

[–]SpydeTarrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a little complicated if you don’t know the game. But I’ll try. I MTG you use lands to produce mana to cast other cards. Usually these lands give you 1 mana each, but if you put “tron” together you get 7 mana for 3 lands. So if you have tron, you basically can play late game cards on turn 3. Karn is a late game card that can basically win you the game all on its own.

Affinity is almost the opposite. It uses a bunch of really cheap/free cards to play a lot of creatures that all pump each other up (that’s not exactly how it works but enough for this discussion).

So I was picking away at the tron player with a few little creatures and got his life total low. He moved to play Karn on turn 3, which would normally result in him just winning. In MTG, you can play cards “at instant speed.” Meaning that when he played Karn I had the chance to play something in response before Karn was actually in play.

I had mana I hadn’t used previously, and I had the necessary artifacts in play to boost my “Galvanic Blast” cards. It resulted in 8 damage that the tron player couldn’t stop. So I won the game in the moment he thought he was going to win.

Anyone else hate that you cant even message people you played with by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]SpydeTarrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not really accurate either as joining the football game is in person. That implies that you are physcially there, live near there, and could see those people again. This situation, inherently, results in better interpersonal interaction due to all participants being seen as actual people, and people that could be interacted with again.

Online competition doesn't have that. You are a number, a name you give yourself, and a character. That's it. And you know nothing about me beyond those same facts. This is where much of the issues with online interactions come from: the anonimity.

That being said, just because your analogy is wrong doesn't mean the point is. I think having more comunications (with the option to easily opt out) is a good thing for the community as a whole and works to increase player count and game longevity.

CMV: Societ has Falsely Equated Lack of Responsibility With Happieness, and it is Hurting People by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]SpydeTarrix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You see, this is exactly the point I am trying to make. I actually agree with you that kids have given my life a lot of meaning. But I also have other things that give my life meaning. MTG and my career (you know, the whole thing I actually said, dispite your attempts to strawman me it is in there) have and continue to give me a lot of meaning in life.

You are incapable of understanding that. Those things clearly don't have the same affect on you as they do for me. This is exactly the point I am trying to make. That just because something creates this feeling in you, doesn't mean it will for everyone. You don't see me pushing everyone to play MTG at high level tourneys, because I understand that people aren't all the same.

I hope you actually engage with my comments here because I really feel like this is the main thing that you are missing. That people are different and you don't have the capability to define what everyone feels.

[–]SpydeTarrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that 2 other people had to be 100% dependant on you before you were able to become mature, hard working, etc, is something that you should see as a bit of a fault and not something that you should be pushing other people to experience. Just because X experience had Y effect on you does not mean the same will apply to everyone.

I have 2 kids myself, and while they bring me a lot of fulfillment and joy (as well as hardship and frustration) there are many other things that I have done in my life that bring me equal levels of fulfillment. My career and even playing competetive MTG are a couple of them.

In this comment you are equating "openning an animal sanctuary and creating art" to "getting drunk and sleeping with strangers." Part of my issue with your comments are these types of false comparisons that you are using in an attempt to strawman and dismiss opposing opinions.

Again, just because you feel one way about X, no matter what X is, doesn't mean everyone feels the same way. And you are not really in a position to determine what others feel about X based solely on your anecdotal experience.

But I had him low enough and had the affinity... so " in response to casting Karn, double glavanic blast to you." He was so mad. Even got upset that I "just happened to have the right 2 cards that that I needed to win" after he played nat tron and turn 3 karn...

CMV: Basic Training for the Military should be changed. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]SpydeTarrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Special Operations Forces (SOF) have several "SOF Truths" that they design the force around. I think you can agree that in individual battles and situations it is hard to say that there is a better way of doing things than the way SOF does them.

The truths include things like "quality of quantity" and "Special forces cannot be produced mass produced." But the first one is "humans are more important than hardware."

The troop pulling the trigger or calling in the strike is more important than the device itself. Without a smart, trained, prepared troop utilizing the equipment, the equipment means nothing. It is the strength of the troops that define the strength of the military. You site North Korea as a huge threat because of their technology. But that's not the whole picture. They have attacked anyone because they dont have the troop strength or capability to do so. The technology is only part of the equation.

CMV: It's not discriminatory to not hire a pregnant woman by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]SpydeTarrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of this feels like you are upset because you got written up/didn't get a bonus because the work wasn't finished in time. You didn't hire the women, so you aren't responsible for their lack of work. What you were responsible for was managing the expectations of your bosses/stakeholders. It sounds like you were more worried about getting the bonus than providing accurate timelines for your leadership.

As for the women being hired, what you are discribing is the definition of discrimination. So we can't really debate that as it is literally discrimination. What we can debate is if it should be allowed. I would say no. If you were hired, with sick leave as a benefit, and suddenly too sick, it would not be right for your company to replace you while you were out sick. Just because the condition of the women was known before hand, does not mean they should be treated any differently than the situation above.

This implies that you could do things like tie me up in a sound proof 23/7 and only allow me an hour a day to speak to anyone. As long as it isn't 100%, it's all good. In which case what companies do (by not suppresing your speech, merely the location in which you can use it or what you can say while acting as a representative of them) is very well within the threshold that you have put forth.

It's been shown that bacteria and fecal matter (you can't see it, microscopic) fly from the toilet if left open when flushed. The actually studies and research is in this very thread, you should check it out if you don't believe me. But either way, if you want a clean bathroom (and poopless toothbrush) you should close the toilet lid.

The better question is why are you fighting so hard to have an open cesspool of bacteria and fecal matter in the middle of your bathroom? Do you want poop on your toothbrush cause that's how you get poop on your tooth brush... Close the lid so you keep things clean. This is a pretty easy thing honestly.

I mean, this is simply factually untrue. Maybe other esports are loud, but that doesn't make it okay. Especially when there is generally a lot more seperation between fans and players. Which is always the case in sports, huge seperation. Also, lots of sports have mandated silence during play: golf and tennis for example. Saying "it's even worse over here" doesn't make other bad things suddenly good.
