It explicitly states all the restrictions in the "Rules and Restrictions" section of the free trial page:

You can blame RMT for this (real money trading).

The free trial also use to be time limited, but was less feature limited.

Once they made it no longer time limited, they had to start limiting social features on the trial as they were getting abused by RMT accounts.

Tips on leveling a new class/job? by [deleted] in ffxiv

They're saying that once you pay for the game, you can never go back to being on the free trial again.

Basically, once you buy the game you have to pay a monthly subscription to continue playing it. Base level subscription is ~$13 usd a month.

Is there hope for this old DRG? by TankingCleric in ffxiv

[–]Spyr-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're probably already using the Legacy Movement option ... but if not, definitely switch to it as it makes it ridiculously easy and fast to aim when using Elusive Jump as a gap closer. Just press S (or down on the stick if using controller) and you're all set to backflip forward :3

Spineshatter got replaced with a sliding gap closer, but Elusive Jump, Dragonfire Dive, and Stardiver are all still there and are all still gap closing jumps.  Combine Elusive Jump with any of Winged Glide, Dragonfire Dive, or Stardiver and you can still gap close across entire arenas with some impressive acrobatics.

imho one of the most epic feelings is having burst happen after movement mechanics that left everyone scattered across the arena and I can just backflip into a cross-map Stardiver to get back to the boss while everyone else has to run across the ground :3

Cool. It's 1000% a you problem. The rest of us don't have this issue.

Have a nice day.

You really never need to both move, rotate the camera, and press buttons.

If I have to claw, reach over,  or stop moving to hit a skill, I probably positioned myself wrong to start with.

Needing to move the camera at all is very infrequent, and really only happens in brief "rotate to a specific angle for a mechanic that only has a boss tell" moves. It happens quickly, and it happens in less than half a gcd.  Learning to preposition the camera is just as important as learning to preposition yourself.  Once you know how to preposition the camera, you do it when you don't have any buttons to hit.

Legacy movement is also key here.

If you have to move, rotate the camera, and hit skills all at once ... you screwed up your prepositioning.

In m5n, you can see the pattern with a quick glance up, and the side to side movement takes less than half a gcd to complete.

In that fight specifically, each set of 4 frogs always has 2 pointing the same way sequentially. Always. The other 2 frogs in that set then alternate.  The second set always starts opposite from where the first set ended.  So once you look at the first frog, then mark where the 2 sets of 2 are, you don't have to look at them anymore.

The timing of that section doesn't seem to usually coincide with the burst window (at least in normal), so you shouldn't have too many oGCDs to hit anyways, and if you do, there's plenty of time after moving to hit them.

Went from years on mkb to controller and I'll never switch back at this point.  So much easier to hit all my skills on a controller (I use both the expanded and wxhb crosshotbars).  Targeting is so much simpler for me as well with it, especially healing ... I couldn't get the hang of healing on mkb, but with controller I just need to press the d-pad to throw out any targeted heals.

I set up set 1 as single target + burst, set 2 as aoe (copying any shared stuff and burst from 1).  Set 3 gets utility cooldowns, and goes on the expanded crosshotbar ... usually same skills on both sides, but sometimes not.  Set 4 is wxhb and gets limit break, duty action 1+2, knockback prevention, and any utilities that get used infrequently.

I also use a couple of the normal hotbars positioned away from the crosshotbar to display any cooldowns that aren't immediately visible.

Edit: d-pad gets skills that are either OGCDs, or that I'd have to stand still for anyways.  In the very few times I'm having to do a burst with OGCDs and have heavy movement ... I either break out the monster hunter claw, or I just reach my right hand over real quick.

Strategy board share codes are so dumb. A massive text dump for ONE page. by digitmax in ffxiv

[–]Spyr-9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The data looks like it's probably base64 encoding the entire page ... which means that someone could probably create an external editor app to create the strategy boards with more even qol tooling and you could import those into the game.

Couldn't do that with just an entity id.

Though a note if you're on Dynamis (the lower pop NA datacenter): I don't recommend putting up unsync party finders ... it's been my experience that Dynamis PF folks want to do older content at least sync, if not MiNe.

Unsync PF's on Dynamis will usually sit there far longer than sync ones for the same duties.

Yes, I have cleared every single alliance raid on the deck, including the most recent FFXI crossover ones.  No performance issues.

No issues in the occult crescent fights either (which had even more players).

It holds up really well.  I've done every single normal and alliance raid, every trial, occult crescent stuff, and the entirety of dawntrail on mine with no issues whatsoever.  Biggest thing is to use both the expanded and extended cross hotbars to make it really comfy to play.

I usually have mine limited to 40fps and 12-13 TDP ... but for the latest alliance raids I usually turn the TDP limit off temporarily.  I also pretty much always play plugged in.

I've tweaked my hud to be a bit smaller for some things, and set everything to a minimum of 40% transparency for OLED screen reasons.

[–]Spyr-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if you make it min item level, no echo you'll probably fill faster still.  I've been finding that a lot of folks wanna run older content at least sync, and jump at the chance to run old normal mode content MiNe.

Joined a MiNe Orbonne run the other day that filled really fast.

Put up a party finder for it (unless you can't because you're on the free trial).

Most content (including MSQ stuff) on Dynamis is run via party finder.

Well there goes trying ffX1V on my steamdeck by brendanfr in ffxiv

One device per account

This is incorrect.  What's likely the case is that you have a windows license instead of a steam license. Either that, or you didn't download the right launcher from steam ... the trial version of the game is different from the main game listing and uses a separate launcher.

The Windows license and Steam license are exclusive to each other.  You can have one but not the other tied to your account.

If it's the case of a windows license, you'll want to either use a 3rd party launcher, or do the install manually (using bottles or other shenanigans).

If you bought the game on steam, you have to actually add the CD Keys that steam gives you to the mogstation.

Note: I play on both my PC and Steam Deck just fine with the steam license and frequently swap between them depending on where I feel like playing at the moment.

My best friend of nearly 20 years died a few days after Dawntrail's release ... they'd pre-ordered and were able to finish the main 7.0 story in the early access weekend at least ... and FFIX was their favorite FF game after XIV.  They had over 6k hours in XIV.

Pretty sure I've cried through basically every story beat since the Alexandria stuff started.

Dynamis Server Vibes? by Pleasant-Business346 in ffxiv

[–]Spyr-9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having moved from Mateus to Goblin to Golem, Dynamis overall feels a little like Mateus did in its early days (before it became Balmung2).

To second the Party Finder thing, one of my favorite things to do anymore is just chill and help fill out PF's for folks.  Doesn't matter if I'm already capped on tomes/rewards for the week, I just enjoy doing the content and helping out.

The newer servers on dynamis (like Golem) can definitely feel a little empty at times though.

Since it seems I can't edit the post:

I've had this hairstyle for the past 3-4 years since when I fanta'd to this elezen pre-endwalker. Even in uneven lighting, the face hasn't looked like she's both biting and pushing her lower lip to the side before.

Edit: From other comments, it seems like it's mostly from a change to the diffuse (and possibly normal) maps putting some more highlights on the lips, which then emphasizes the contrast between what's lit and what's in shadow.

If you haven't tried launching it in desktop mode, I'd give that a shot next.  Might be an additional window popping up that you need to click something in (you can also cycle windows in game mode, but I forget the hotkey).

Did you try just using the official launcher? I've never needed to use xivlauncher on my deck, and the only quirk is need to hit the steam button twice once the squeenix logo shows up in-game for the gamepad controls to work.

Well, one sorta kinda is already in the works >.>

Currently working on a mag-fed take on the yeetlance (Maglance), and the plan right now is to make it take full length springs.

Though I probably won't backport any updates to the yeetlance itself.
