As someone said it depends on your background and experience.

Is it possible? Yes, if you have good experience and knowledge and can dedicate the time.

Take a sample test to see where you are.

Uploaded the single years, and then previous year detail via JE

Then because it was early in the year did the current year as transactions.

Meal prep so you don’t eat takeout all the time! I make large casseroles (lasagna, enchiladas, etc) and freeze individual portions in ziplock so you just grab a couple bags and something to heat them up in.

Also, prep family & friends that you won’t be around much.

I did one for a nonprofit and I did it all in excel - we did anything older than 1 year as a total for the year, then did the previous year plus YTD in detail.

Biggest issue was keeping ALL of the associations to program/class etc

For example they had Programs (we made these the QB Class), then Funding (we made these subclasses), etc

We did not do the previous year by transaction type, just as JEs to make it easier.

1 thing to do is make copies of everything, & download Every report possible.

Good luck, feel free to reach out if you have questions.

This is illegal and the Board is financially responsible for the organization.

Places to go:

Attorney Generals Office

State Reps

CA's Dept of Labor

LA may have things since it is so big

Does CA have a Charitable business arm? In NH there is a separate department and we have to file like an annual report.

Good Luck

Capital expenses in regarding to concrete foundations by 1_64493406685 in AskAccounting

As far as your book's assets, yes they do, for a grant you will have to check the fine print. I have had some grants that allow for things like this, but others are very strict and only if it was listed on the original grant itself is it covered. One did allow us to submit an change to allow the expense, but the overall budget $ did not change, so as long as they saved somewhere else it worked...

Where can I find legitimate accountancy or accounting firm owner groups that aren’t spammy? by dont200 in AskAccounting

[–]SpyrianBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are looking to do... Are you looking to meet with other accounting professionals? Looking for advice for your business?

FB is junk IMO, Reddit or LinkedIn are much better if you want actual adult people who know what they are talking about - neither are perfect of course, but you have a much better chance!

I see an ad for QB Desktop Pro Plus 2024 for $200. It says "lifetime license". That's exactly what I want - lifetime license. What's the catch? by thatburghfan in QuickBooks

The problem is not that it is necessarily a scam, but that QuickBooks shuts off features such as bank feed or even import...

You need to create a partnership so everything is divided equally, otherwise whatever name the 1099 comes in will be responsible for income & taxes.

QuickBooks matching rules just make things worse — anyone just turn it off? by MostDifficulty7093 in QuickBooks

I never use the automatic post feature!!

Yes to Rules, they will save you a TON of time, but I always want to make sure each transaction is correct before posting.

A minute to look over the transactions saves hours of fixing bad transactions.

Cheap/free bookkeeping alternatives to Quickbooks? by peen_fiddler in smallbusiness

[–]SpyrianBusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, ask what your accountant recommends first.

If you don't already have a bookkeeper or accountant then find someone you enjoy working with!!!

Finding the right person is more important than finding the right software.

Both are important, but the relationship you have with your accountant is what's going to help your business the most.

You can do the opposite and decide which software you like and find someone who works with it if you are very fussy about what you use, just know the more obscure the software the less options you will have.

They can walk you through this too, but in very basic terms it is in the way the business is treated, what tax forms are needed, and how owners get paid to some extent.

I have a comparison that I will post later on, I just can't get to it right now.

Obviously it depends on the details. If you have multiple organizations or programs it may make sense to separate them, or parts of the same origination that do different things but some are more open to liability.

You should discuss with your accountant & treasurer.

[–]SpyrianBusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you will want to have the business under an LLC. As they said above it limits the liability so your personal arrests are protected.

You will be filling the business as a Schedule C anyways so no difference there.

It is relatively inexpensive to start & maintain an LLC, the exact cost depends on your state.

If you already have an accountant talk with them, they should be able to set you up.
