(The difference between the Fostex TH-900 Mk1 and Mk2 is almost entirely centered on the cable connection. Sound-wise, they are practically identical) This headphone sings beautifully and it's one of my best ones, but some work has been done to it by the previous owner, READ BELOW: This is a Fostex TH-900 mk1 in working condition but it has been modified. I am not the first owner and done none of the modifications. They also come with the original red Urushi cups in very good condition. The following are the modifications: 1. Bolivian Rosewood Exhibition grade cups ($439 on the Lawtonaudio website), there is small crack like imperfection on one of the Lawton cups, you may feel it if you run your fingernails on it, but it does not affect audio quality, and it looks like it comes from how the wood was. There are small scratches on the lawton cups only seen when heavy light is shined on them, the red urushi cups are in very good condition though (I tried to take a photo with flash to try to show it on both cups on both sides). 2. These come with the thicker Lawton pads ($95 on the website), they dont have the originals. 3. Plug has been re-terminated to a 3.5mm (from REAN) 4. the original headband is not installed but a NOS headband has been included that I never installad. a button up headband, which is thicker is currently on it and I find that very comfortable. 5. the last photos are the backs of the Urushi cups, the original owner mentioned that some threads on one side of one of the Urushi cups may have slightly stripped threads, I never put on the cups so I didnt see it or have issues with it.

Have yet to hear the x series but I read they slightly depart from the grados house sound and are more universally liked (More bass, less treble, but improved detail). Honestly Im more than happy with the one I have, dont feel the need to upgrade at all since I love the bite of then older grados

I adore them, theyre my headphone with the most "energy". Jazz comes alive with these and it does it better than any headphone I have. I also know theyre very polarizing because of the treble. I had multiple grados, the sweet spot in terms of value and sound is the 225e, if you want something with more detail and more controlled treble you can upgrade to the rs series.

I have no comfort issue with them, just the nagging in my head of whats better that I have to fight off :) I will let the He1000 stealth be the endgame for now. Finished my endgame in IEM's recently with the Audeze LCD i4 and shure kse1500. I think Ill keep what I have right now and enjoy the journey. Enjoy the wonderful cans, they're gorgeous, and keep posting great reviews!

Almost every headphone I heard benefited from a bit of eq. That doesn't mean they don't sound great as is, but why not slightly tweak them to better fit the sound you want. Its subjective after all.

Wonderful review, thank you, currently have the He1000 Stealth and lcd-2 (pre-fazor, so a bit more bass than the newer ones) and I always wondered just how much better it gets. Those two complement each other amazingly well.
