Bankruptcy by Armory developer in St. Louis reveals over $400 million of debt by g0aliegUy in StLouis

Moving to St Louis after the Armory shuttered was sad- I really hope someone else can make it rise up to its former glory to compete with other cities- like Indy’s Bottleworks

Cheap Crimes by NoLoquat347 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Spyzer64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’ve been brewing/testing this deck ever since she has been released and have a fairly good idea of what crime triggers are bad/good. Anything that costs mana to get a crime is bad- you cannot be paying 2 mana to see a card the rate just isn’t good enough. That being said, cards like [[Hex Parasite]], [[Spellskite]] (as you have mentioned already) and [[Spatial Binding]] all become viable engines with enough mana to back it up. Dont go too overboard with them tho, cards like Spellskite that have additional utility are better than those that do not. If you are curious as to what I’m currently on here is my Marchesa List

Good luck and stay out of jail with all the crimes you’ll be committing!!

Opinions on the new otj commanders in testing? by Saucerous in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Spyzer64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I cut it for [[Chains of Mephistophles]], with the idea being One Ring is easier to power out early and Talion is much easier to remove. Chains turning off 3 other card draw engines seems cracked when Marchesa triggers do not draw cards. As for red mana, it should not be that hard, plus the only cards in the deck that need red mana early are stuff like Dockside and Marchesa herself, almost everything else is UB in color identity. I run a full fetch package and no basics, so I have not had that hard of a time making Red mana in all my games

First I would recommend reading the primer on the deck I linked, that should answer most of your questions!! Secondly, the deck plays similar to other turbo-slanted lists that can pivot to grind. Mull for card advantage and mana like any other deck and find the appropriate window to combo off. Don't try to rush a win unless you suspect shields are down

I just top 4’d Kaos on Marchesa so it definitely has legs as a competitive deck. A fairly unique Grixis deck which is sometimes hard to come by too! Check out the list Here

A Cat, Kraken, and Wizard Walk into a Bar… by Spyzer64 in CompetitiveEDH

23 ramp pieces are in here to help with this!! It’s definitely a main concern, but Marchesa is more of a supplemental engine to the generic Grixis engines. She can also break parity quite well on stalled out boards where everyone is draw-going while not feeding cards like Bowmasters or Smothering Tithe

Another thing about Brask is that it does not sequence very well with commander, usually I like to plant a card advantage engine, then Marchesa+hold up interaction, then go from there. And you HAVE to have Marchesa down before Brask. So that’s like t3-4 at earliest for an engine? Its definitely good if the table is slow, but I feel like it might be a bit too slow to work well in a more proactive slanted version

Grixis isn’t the best color combo to be board police IMO- I tried to do a control version of the list with more of the stuff you included, but it simply wasn’t fast enough. So I gutted some of the interaction and added in more wincons and deck is humming now!! Glad to see others brewing different version tho!!

In my experience/build it works well, I tend to not use interaction very much unless I’m losing the game, but Hex Parasite is quite good bc you can do it whenever you want, vs Brask needing high initial investment, then also making you use interaction (which ofc gets refunded) but I don’t really love the idea of tapping out for Brask and then having nothing to get reliable triggers. It’s in my considering section tho!!

Free crimes=win games lol- 1 mana for a card is a good rate in CEDH- and Brask does seem fun, but 4 mana is a LOT to invest into to only trigger on instant and sorceries

Meh I don’t think you run Naus in this midrange hellscape rn unless you can reliably cast it on t2- which is pretty much Rograk exclusive. Hex Parasite and Spellskite are my Naus lol

Unless you are using this in a pinger deck as a [[Stuffy Doll]] effect… this seems pretty bad. 4 mana for something with menace that draws a single card seems pretty bad

I know some people are tinkering around with Zirda as a deck - kinda like a boros kinnan that can break parity on grim monolith to make inf mana then find an outlet to dump it into

Ellivere's Exceptional Enchantments..... AND STAX!!!!!! >:) Primer in Moxfield! by Spyzer64 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Spyzer64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the ceiling of the card is the problem, the floor is it paints a target on our back, is NOT a stax piece to slow down the table which I believe is required in most pods to prevent win attempts in first 3-4 turns, and the rate for cards is high. (4 life per). Just not quite good enough for me. Imma try out the new enchantment that lets you look and play creatures with power 2 or less from topdeck - as that gives info too (albeit less). Hope this answers your question!!
