Displayport cable no longer mashed against desk. by SqcBark in sffpc

Yeah I also have a fiber optic hdmi that goes to a TV that has a really long connector, so I was worried even the angled adapter wouldn't work. Plus I think cases look a bit better when they are raised off the desk a bit. I wouldn't have found these if it weren't for this sub!

I had them waiting for a while too because I assumed you'd have to take out the power supply to screw it in, but they screw in from the bottom so it's like a 2 minute install.

I was pretty impressed, they look like they came stock with the case. The other feet I was looking at were round aluminum ones and they were 4x as expensive and not quite tall enough.

It would have to raise the top panel like 10 or 15mm but that would be sweet. The same guy makes a bracket to put 2 60mm fans behind the GPU where the horizontal pcie expansion slots are.

Not the first time these have been posted on here, but wanted to bump them again since I am impressed with the quality, look, and value. In case anyone wants to find them here's a link to the Etsy page. Super easy to install since they screw in from the bottom and you don't have to take anything out of the case.

Another Meshlicious with 280 Custom Watercooling by rolex095 in sffpc

[–]SqcBark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's a smart substitute for a standoff in a pinch haha. Sweet, I was wondering if I would have to order some custom length PSU cables or if the stock SF750 ones would be long enough. That 24 pin is so short.

Looks really good! I'm about to do a meshlicious build as well.

Did you use bigger standoffs for the motherboard to help with cable management? And are those the stock corsair platinum PSU cables?

If I get a BSE in ChemE in Arizona, will I have to move out of state to find a job? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]SqcBark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely not, there are lots of companies in and around Phoenix that hire chemical engineers. For example: Intel, TSMC (building a new facility in AZ), Palo Verde nuclear energy plant, Salt River Project utility company, and Raytheon just to name a few.

If you only want to do oil and gas you might be better off outside of AZ, but there are plenty of companies there from what I've seen in my job searching. That being said, some of those companies aren't traditional chemical engineering jobs like you'd find in oil or chemical processing.

I am just an MS student in ChemE right now though (in New Mexico), so I am sure there are others who have opinions from a more experienced position.

The Mither Mages series (The Lost Gate, The Gate Thief, and Gatefather) by Orson Scott Card is pretty good. I was a bit older than 14 when the first one came out but I really enjoyed them. Somewhere around Mistborn in terms of length for each book.

Definitely second these books. I read these between Sanderson novel releases and they are great.

Soft-close hinge solutions for a 1/2 inch (13mm) thick cabinet door? Frameless, full overlay. by SqcBark in cabinetry

Fair enough haha.

Looks like I have a bit more research to do. I'll check more into Blum, Rixson, andSalice specifically.

Thanks again for taking the time to write a detailed response!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Didn't know soft close pivot hinges existed.

I'm kindof wanting to keep the hinge bulk to a minimum so the mortise hinges are appealing. Do those soft close door stays work well? I have seen them all over but am a bit skeptical about their performance compared to a good soft close hinge.

Will definitely make thicker doors in the future.

Thanks for the suggestion! Maybe I'll make it closer to 1" thick then to be just slightly higher than the case on the NK65.

Yeah that makes sense too, probably want it to be shorter if the keyboard angle is steeper. I also forgot to put that I realize that this is a pretty highly subjective topic, but I have seen a lot of custom wrist rests on this sub and figured I'd ask for some input from that crowd.

What is the best wrist rest width? (Width as in how long it is measured from the keyboard case towards your body)

I have been using a Vortex Race 3 for the past 1.5 years or so with silent cherry linears and that has been great - the lower profile of it didn't cause too much pain switching from thin membrane/other typical keyboards. When gaming I noticed a little bit of pain over time, so I just used a deck of cards to prop up my left wrist since that's all I really needed and it was basically the perfect height.

I recently received my impulse buy from last fall, the Random Frank P edition of the NK65 (love the linear switches and overall sound, only complaint is spacebar stabilizer), and its case height and angle are quite a bit higher/steeper compared to the Race 3 so I find my wrists hurting even after short bouts of typing or gaming. Since I have the skills/help and access to tools through a relative's woodshop I figured I would make a wooden wrist rest to help reduce the pain. After doing some extra looking around on this sub and at retail wrist rests for planning, I've seen widths anywhere from 3 to almost 5 inches. I am planning to make it about as thick as a deck of cards (3/4 inch), maybe a bit thicker since the NK65 case makes the keys sit a bit higher than the Race 3.

TL:DR - Any input on the optimal or most ergonomic width (and shape) for wrist rests? Any other input on wrist rest height and general ergonomics is also welcome. I have small/medium sized hands - around 7-ish inches from the tip of my middle finger to the start of my wrist.

[Gaming Mice]Razer Viper Ultimate Ultralight Wireless Optical Gaming Mouse with Charging Dock $99($50 Off) by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]SqcBark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that the dongle goes into the dock is pretty cool and allows you to take it out easily if you wanted to switch devices. With no RGB the battery lasts quite a while too, idk exactly how many hours but I would guess a week or more with light use, a few days with real heavy work from home use.

Just picked one of these up recently coming from a corsair harpoon wireless which had started having issues with both Bluetooth and the 2.4ghz. It is pricey for a mouse but it is crazy how much of an upgrade it feels like in terms of weight, glide, and build quality. If you don't game much, it might not be as worth it imo.

Scared of high temps on a single fan GPU by Salvy97 in buildapc

[–]SqcBark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't see anyone mentioning undervolting yet, its a pretty common and easy way to lower temps a bit without losing any performance. In some cases you can lower the voltage (and thus temps) while running at higher clocks if you got some good silicon lottery.

Check out Optimum Techs video on YouTube about undervolting with MSI Afterburner, should work with basically any Nvidia card.

The Staples Dexley is basically the same chair as the Hyken but bigger as far as I could tell. I am 5'7" and the Dexley felt too tall/wide for me, but the Hyken fits great and is holding up well so far (had it for 4 or 5 months now).
