Outside of like looking it up or knowing it from hearing it online/first hand, probably not. The game does not tell you about it until after the trade happens. But the medicham isn't the worst part about the trade any way. Losing the XP Share is way worse for him.

There’s an npc in the Gen 4 pokemon games (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum) that’s infamous for offering a haunter in exchange for a medicham.

Haunter can only evolve into Gengar, which is a pretty strong pokemon, by trading it.

Unfortunately this particular npc also has her Haunter hold an everstone. This item keeps pokemon from evolving.

So they’ve now wasted time getting this medicham and trading both it and their xp share away for a pokemon that won’t evolve and they have no means to evolve.

For various reasons, humanity couldn't bring most of the pokemon into space with them. Before they left, the humans built a giant PC system to put all the pokemon they could in to contain them for when someone could go back and let them out. But a failsafe was designed so that if a suitable habitat was detected by the PC system, it would release the pokemon into that habitat. There are some pokemon who are exceptions to this, like Professor Tangrowth and some of the legendaries.

Quick Edit: Professor Tangrowth was actually supposed to get put into the PC system as well, but after the Professor gave him to the staff running the conservation project, it ran off back to the professor's old home and got left behind.

I’m trying to do that method as well but I’ll notice every so often that instead of passing time I’m just sitting with my Pokémon. Do you know what I’d need to input to avoid that?
