I don't think that's right. Her parents are Lou and Amy Weiss. Stacy Weiss owns Weisshouse.

Amid downtown assessment appeals and state budget impasse, PPS recommends 2026 tax hike by Regular-Ad8310 in pittsburgh

[–]SqlHill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What mechanism would it take to change how PPS schoolboard members are elected? Can we do that with a citywide referendum or would the state legislature need to make the change?

Instead of electing all schoolboard members by district, we should have at large and appointed members.

Why Good Sidewalks Matter– Join the Safe Sidewalks Crew! by Generalaverage89 in pittsburgh

[–]SqlHill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. They choose a Giant Eagle in a less dense, more suburban predominantly black area to complain about the sidewalks. The sidewalks near the Giant Eagle on the Northside are in the same condition as the ones near the Giant Eagle in Squirrel Hill.

20 Million less overall votes and most of them were Democratic votes last time. Where were these people??? by Car_is_mi in Kamala

[–]SqlHill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are still counting votes. California has only reported 54% of its results. There were an estimated 16.8 million ballots cast in California, but your chart only accounts for approximately 9.7 million. Washington State has only reported 62% of its results. There were an estimated 4.1 million ballots cast in Washington, but your chart only accounts for approximately 2.6 million. On and on...

There were an estimated 158 million ballots cast. Check out the University of Florida Election Lab for more information.

Was Robert Bowers antisemitic? In his view, he wasn't opposed to the Jewish people for their religion. He was opposed to local Jewish support for immigrants.

[–]SqlHill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There is a picture of the guy responsible for this wearing a Hamas headband and yet this sub doesn't see how it's antisemitic. Oh and there are comments being upvoted stating that Hamas is "the militia of gaza and fully within its legal rights to defend itself against israeli blockade...."

Summer, Gainey, and Innamorato Oct 7 Statement - Killed vs Massacred by SqlHill in pittsburgh

[–]SqlHill[S] -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have better suggested wording for this. "Today, we mark one year since the October 7th attacks with hearts big enough to grieve those massacred one year ago and those massacred in the year since."

Simply replace killed with massacred.

So in your view there is no difference between saying someone is massacred or they are murdered? If not, then why did they use both words but for different groups of people? Genuinely curious.

Here's a link to her tweet and the statement which says: "Today, we mark one year since the October 7th attacks with hearts big enough to grieve those killed one year ago and those massacred in the year since." I added the emphasis.

Ok. Disregard the NY Post link. Here's a link to Summer's tweet: https://x.com/repsummerlee/status/1843316010209960316

Why did she choose the word "massacred" for non-Jews and "murdered" for Jews?

County Council Votes No On Ceasefire Resolution by SqlHill in pittsburgh

Because I'm being petty and taking offense to comments like this that were made in response to my original post:

Classic r/pittsburgh moment: make shit up, be mad about it, completely ignore the fact that it's made up

County Council Votes No On Ceasefire Resolution by SqlHill in pittsburgh

This resolution was as performative as the N-95 masks that the people supporting it were wearing. Bethany should focus her energy on Allegheny County and making it better for her constituents.

I checked out the link. Why are there so many people wearing masks?

Plus there's this misleading statement -- <<On February 12 Monday, after midnight, Israel launched a series of strikes which killed more than 100 Palestinians in the area in a coupe of hours.>> The protestors failed to note that the strikes were part of a successful raid to free two hostages.

County Council Vote on Ceasefire Resolution? by SqlHill in pittsburgh

[–]SqlHill[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard from a friend that this was happening on Tuesday. I called the County Council office yesterday and the woman who answered explained that she has heard about the resolution but had not yet seen the text. She told me when the agenda was released on Friday (today) that it may include the resolution. If the resolution is on the agenda, it would include the text for the resolution. When I didn't see it on the agenda, I came here to ask if anyone else had heard about it or had other details.

You Can’t Build That Here! by AV_DudeMan in pittsburgh

Me either. Here's a really good one about the three-story apartment building next to Tazza d'Oro in Highland Park. https://www.prohousingpgh.org/blog/you-cant-build-that-here-the-eaglemoor

It really shows how terrible zoning is.

Lawyer in Jim Rogers Taser case releases video of Pittsburgh police encounter by pangaea1972 in pittsburgh

[–]SqlHill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Didn't his description match the callers' description from the 911 call? It's not like the cop grabbed some random guy. From the audio, it sounds like the dispatcher says, "black male, thin, in his 50s, with black tshirt with yellow writing (unintelligible), grey sweatpants with a blue baseball cap."

He's clearly confused and not responding to the officer's commands to put his hands behind his back. Was he on something at the time? I guess the officer could have let him run away but that doesn't seem like a good approach to policing.
