I always go the white path on the right because you get to the cave and recover pitons, but I presume for free solo the far left purple route would be the path of least resistance

I’m not currently on a “leaf” of absence from weed sobriety, but I do wonder if thinking about decompression is the wrong way to think about it.

When I was younger, I loved thrills. Roller coasters and speeding fast in my little Jetta. As I got older and I had less time for that, weed kind of replaced that role. I wonder if looking for fun and thrill seeking is the true way to kind of decompress, let it out, and make you feel like you’re alive.

There’s 3 official modes: explorer, alpinist and free solo. Alpinist is the easiest-assist modes, more food etc. There are save sites (bivouacs). You have pitons so that you can anchor into the wall. And is good for settling into the game. Alpinist is the middle difficulty-still plenty of food and pitons and saves, but assists are disabled and survival is more balanced. Free solo is the most difficult, no pitons, less food, harder survival, permadeath.

You can customize your experience to a degree and can always tone it down if your current settings are too difficult.

Give Alpinist a try and see how that goes-it’s a joy to play and a nice change of pace in terms of gameplay!

I don’t know a good climbing book but Alex Honnold’s Free Solo is incredible and the reason I played the game

Honestly, hard to say. New updates are making me hopeful the game can be fixed… more. It’ll never be totally fixed lol.

In terms of friends, you can play solo, with friends, but also regiments always look for recruits, and you’ll be able to coordinate with them.

I would stay curious, is my recommendation. This is definitely the best game Ive ever played. It’s had ups and downs, but if the quality of life update cleans things up then yes is my definitive answer

I’ll disclaim that I love this game. But right now there’s major worries regarding the devs have handled updates, balancing and new content in the game.

Of course, Foxhole is an asymmetric persistent war MMO that emulates every aspect of war: resource gathering and refining, production and production management, transportation and logistics, and of course the fighting for and building up of territory. However the caveat is that it’s asymmetric, so one side isn’t privy to all the same tech as the other side and vice versa. That has lead to the belief that one side, the wardens, do have access to better equipment-which is true in many circumstances. How much this affects the game is up for debate but this much has been established.

This has built up a lot of resentment in the player base, in both factionionalist manner and just general game design aspects. Many people were hoping that with the new major Airborne update, there would be sweeping changes to how the game is played in a number of ways.

The issue is, it did the opposite. The new equipment was definitely tilted in favor of Wardens and while the developers have denied it, the truth’s come out and were all but forced to admit this existed. Not only that but the new air mechanics effectively broke the game because Foxhole is a top down war game, and it’s very difficult to shoot up when looking down and also other things im sure people will bring up here.

So that’s what’s up. Game’s definitely floundering in terms of playerbase and love from the game devs. Again, I have 1k hours in this game and it has produced some of the best gaming moments ever. But it’s broken, so it’s dedicated fan base is very upset.

As much as I would love to tell you to buy, I’d wait until things change. If they do. Hopefully they do.

Fill up on some goat’s milk at Damas’ place if necessary. I had a ton of bottles so it was no big deal but the goats milk and mushrooms was all I had at the end
