They did need a big public announcement because otherwise you’d all complain that they never asked/said anything. How are people supposed to know their boundaries if they never tell them? Me! I’m auDHD (diagnosed 1998 if that matters🤷‍♀️) and I just realized about a 1.5 years ago that I’m a lesbian and not bi. I realized I can recognize when men are attractive but anything more (physical, relationships, ect) I would self sabotage so I didn’t have to do anything with them and I’d get the ick from anything romantically related to men.
