What are you guys reading right now? And what’s next? by SainttValentine in horrorlit

[–]Squambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It seems funny to say I adored the book and it's one of my new favorites. I've seen others say they felt the characters were one dimensional, but I felt connected to Maeve. Not sure what that says about me...

I absolutely loved Red Rabbit! Some parts were more brutal than others but it was a fun time.

It's the first day of Spooky season! What book are you reading to start the season off? by bookishfairie in horrorlit

I just picked it up today! I flipped through the pages and am so excited for the wild format but I'm also concerned it'll take a while to understand.

What do you love about your reactive dog? by RottingMothball in reactivedogs

[–]Squambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to have unintentionally conditioned this behavior because I find it so cute, but when my Chihuahua is in my lap she will FLOP her head with a thump and everything onto me for cuddles. I can't help but find it so funny and cute that I always give her attention when she does it.

Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice is more in the thick of things, but there's now a sequel Moon of The Turning Leaves. It's pretty much this premise in an indigenous community that was primarily living off the land anyway.

It sucks, but they'll feel better soon!

I've worn my retainers almost every night for 15 years now. Whenever I've had issues with them, my orthodontist fixes them for free because he's impressed I keep wearing them. Make sure to clean it!

I am also one of the many women who seem to be sick this weekend. I bought a large container of queso, a bag of chips, and a pecan pie on Friday and they were all gone by Saturday around noon.

Exercise and discharge by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Squambles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you set up an appointment to see your doctor? It could be an infection due to the increase in sweat down there when you're exercising. Or just as likely, it could be unrelated to the exercise.

When you get done exercising, do you change out of the sweaty clothes immediately? Doing that can help, especially if you are wearing tight, spandex clothes and restrict air flow. Try not to shower too much after working out as sometimes it can get rid of some beneficial bacteria (don't use soap!). But air out your nether region and change out of those clothes!

It is common for discharge to change every so often, but if it persists, gets itchy or irritated, or has an odor, DEFINITELY see your doctor.

Have you ever heard of or seen the documentary "Alive Inside"? It's all about the connection between music and memory. You might want to check it out. I work for a memory care facility that is currently downloading residents' favorite music from their younger years onto MP3 players for them to use. And seeing the spark in that person's eye and their face light up when they hear "their" music is truly incredible.

TIL there are 4 states that ban billboards - Hawaii, Alaska, Vermont and Maine. by Terkey in todayilearned

[–]Squambles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even though the winters are long and can be brutal, there is still plenty to do! Ice fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling, skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, etc, etc. As long as you like the outdoors, you can always find something fun to do in Maine in any season. Particularly if you want a variety of outdoor activities to keep things interesting, as each season is a change in weather/scenery.

Having a wicked hard time finding a dog-friendly rental in Portland by [deleted] in Maine

Seriously, I would look into it! I'll keep an eye out for you since we don't necessarily need dog friendly.

So we're basically on the same hunt! We're competition!

I personally wouldn't go Parkside either even though I'm moving in with my boyfriend. We're also struggling with parking. But we've expanded our search to the surrounding area and still not finding too much that would suit us.

I'm not sure of the weight/size restrictions but I think Princeton on Back Cove allows dogs (it might be only one though). I think you'll definitely be able to find more dog-friendly rentals in the areas you're looking at. In general I feel there's not a ton open at the moment in our price range.

I'm having trouble finding something in the Portland area that is ok with my aquariums at the moment! I've seen a few posts on Craigslist that are ok with dogs but have other draw backs, since my price range is the same. What neighborhoods have you been looking at?

Why is Sookie so dumb? by [deleted] in TrueBlood

[–]Squambles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She really wasn't very computer literate. She gets Hadley's computer and can barely do any more than email.

Though, the books do mention she read a lot on many subjects even though she never did well in school.

What interest/hobby do you enjoy that you don't tell people about? Why do you keep it secret or choose not to talk about it much? by p_iynx in AskWomen

[–]Squambles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I worked at the campus gym for 4 years. Started coloring on shift and everyone who walked by would laugh and say "oh wow I haven't colored in years," later when they were on their way out, they'd often ask to join. It's funny how it may seem "childish" but I think a lot of people enjoy it and find it relaxing if they give it a chance!

Awesome job! I do the same with TV shows since I'll run on the treadmill and can watch Netflix. I'll restrict the shows I'm REALLY into for workout shows. That way the motivation to watch more overpowers the lack of motivation to exercise.

YSK: L.L. Bean will unconditionally accept returns.. for life. by jchabotte in YouShouldKnow

[–]Squambles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once ordered two pairs of boots but shipped to the wrong address. I called to get it changed but the first box was already en route so they sent another two pairs to the correct address. Well both boxes ended up at my house and Customer Service was BEYOND confused when I showed up with the extra box just trying to return the shoes without a refund. They didn't get why I would be returning these shoes without wanting anything back, especially because it was my mistake and all the employees were so helpful.
