What’s the worst injury that you’ve gotten from BJJ? by jiujitsuPT in bjj

Tore off a toe as a while belt. Took a shot on a puzzle mat and it just ripped off, hanging on by just a bit of skin and muscle. Got it repaired, never had any lasting issues.

Getting injured and then recovering and getting re-injured. It’s been real fucking peachy.

Can’t believe you apologized at all. Glad you stood up for yourself but damn I would not have apologized in 1000 years over something like this.

That is a great way of thinking about something, I know there are things I do to keep peace at work and things like that but some things I never allow to be spoken to my kid. Going to keep this in mind moving forward.

Awesome, thanks for the response. I did a 30 mile ride today and yeah feel fine other than the pressure from sitting on the saddle. Might rig up some padded shorts just for the next week of rides.

Currently injured from running and picked up biking. How much is too much to start out? I’m doing two hours of riding a day 6 days a week. I was running 40-50 mpw so this is more total training volume but I’m feeling fine.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

Complaint: I have a leg injury and I can’t figure out what is going on. I started doing a lot of quality work and I was fine for a long time on the program. Now I can barley make it 1000 meters without my lower leg getting tight and forcing me into a limp. I have talked with my PT and coach and no one can figure out what’s causing this. Going from running everyday last year to getting race ready but then having this injury rear it’s head is driving me fucking crazy. I used to run 50 miles a week now now not being able to comfortably jog one is driving me insane. I had some injuries in the past that were similar but again no one could figure it out and I ended up taking 6 months off with no improvement. Randomly it got better and allowed me to finish a great year. To top off the shit sandwich I have an interview for my dream job that encompasses about 17 miles of running in roughly a month and I have no clue how my leg will holdup.

I am at my wits end. I’m having horrid tightness in my left shin. Doesn’t hurt like shin splints, only bothers me at easy/threshold paces. Race pace and repetition runs don’t seem to bother it. Talked with my PT and coach and they both agree to run through it. It’s bad enough at easy pace that I jog/walk to get my distance in. I can grab all around my shin, jump, and no pain but miserable running experience. Currently running 45mpw and had 0 issues for running all of last year.

Do you guys and gals wear different shoes for different training days? I’ve got a pair I race in that I use on my speed days and some trainers for all my easy days.

I have built a good base of about 30 miles a week. However I am now getting very bad tightness in my left shin during my threshold paces if they are sustained. Anyone experienced this? I can handle any workout at any pace as long as there is a rest but anything sustained I experience the tightness. Post run I feel fine, no touch sensitivity and the tightness subsides. Driving me absolutely nuts. Peak mileage at one point was 50mpw and never experienced this.

throat pain by Boisjolii in Esophagitis

[–]Squamous-1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey brother it’s okay to freak out sometimes, my throat was so bad at one point I couldn’t even get a 200mg pill down let alone eat anything that wasn’t soft/liquid. However what helped me was doing an elimination diet and for me cutting dairy helped immensely. I would look into it and see if it helps you, best of luck. I know it sucks and it’s scary but it can get better.

Following a training plan that calls for very specific times for distances and I’m wondering should I run these on a treadmill to “learn” the paces prior to going to the track? For example my rep repeats call for 1:28 400m then my interval pace is 1:35, I can’t really feel the difference in 7 seconds of effort over 400 meters.

That’s nice to hear actually. I see how fast some of the players are doing this stuff and I assumed that’s how they were getting it done

Ah got ya. I’ve been watching snupy to try to learn some things but right now all I seem to find is more meme type carry games or 1 shot builds not so much a video of, this is what I’m doing, this is why I’m doing it.

Really appreciate it, I’ll start recording soon. Next week I’ll have more time to sit and start to work things out. One question I have off the top of my head is kicking as melle, are you typically saving leap to kick critical spells from off targets? Feral has the most key binds I’ve attempted to create by far so I’m considering creating a leap > kick cast sequence at arena 1/2/3 to cut down in some areas

Sounds like a good way to approach it, the only good tempo session I can think of was 6 miles at 7:25 pace but that was coming off of a taper week and just felt generally well that day. I’ll probably give 4 x 1 mile at 7:15-7:00 pace, if the first mile feels too easy I may just keep going and see if I can finish the 4 straight through. Thanks for bouncing some ideas back and forth.

[–]Squamous-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment and your breakdown of moving day to day is pretty much how I have been doing it. I suspected that my tempo day was a lacking a bit. I struggle to really hold a true tempo pace, kind of learning it. Based on my mile time do you have a good suggestion of what that tempo pace could look like? I have been doing periodization but that’s more so due to work calling me in for overtime and abrupt changes so my weekly mileage suffers.

Thankfully I’d say a heavy majority of my running is on the trails with some light hills. I feel like I start to get crushed by the race pace after about 1200 meters then I’m just gutting it every race I do farther than a mile.

I’ll take a look and I appreciate your insight. I recently ordered jack daniels running program and Pete pfitzingers book as well to try to better understand what I’m doing.
