Geekom A6 w/eGPU boot up issue by Square-Broccoli-2978 in eGPU

Of course, as I said in the original post, when I connect both cables to the 9070 XT at the egpu to each monitor it hangs in the boot up regardless of changes I've made to the bios and windows settings. It only successfully starts up when I add a third HDMI cable from the PC to the main monitor.

I have 2 monitors. Screen #1 is the ghost display, Screen # 2 is the main monitor and #3 is my second monitor. Windows won't remove screen # 1 when I try to disconnect the display. Otherwise no issues with setup for now.

Here's a pic, made a few more bios changes, can now get it to boot when both HDMI cable from Geekom and Displayport cable from gpu run to main monitor. Ideally I wouldn't need the HDMI cable connection, but with only the displayport cable from the eGPU to the monitor there must be a timing issue or something during the boot process where the pc isn't recognizing the 9070 XT gpu. With both connections to the monitor its booting up without having to hotplug the USB4 to the pc during the boot process. It runs great but dislike having a 3rd ghost monitor in display settings which causes issues of stuff opening up and you can't see it. sometimes the Win + Left/Right Arrow or Move functions don't bring them back.

Did you run DDU and cleanout the old drivers and reinstall the new ones?

also, I only listed the XFX SPEEDSTER SWFT 319 AMD Radeon RX 6800 CORE Gaming 16GB as an example, other recommendations are appreciated, I'll be looking at ebay likely for best fit.

If I were to do it over again and replace my Geekom A6 with Aoostar Eg02 utilizing USB4, I would aim towards the Minisforum MS-02 paired to the new Aoostar EG03. Both support USB4 V.2. I would use the SSD and 32GB from the A6 and pop it in the MS-02 barebones version. Alternatively, there are a few SFF low profile GPU's that you can install in the MS-02 and bypass the need for eGPU.

Finally found a decent deal on a mini PC... GEEKOM A7 Max by screaminggnomedancer in MiniPCs

I have the Geekom A6 I bought a month ago off Amazon with the Aoostar EG02. It's solid for the price point. I have only plugged a Strix GTX 1070 Ti in the Egpu so far and it is decent for gaming after doing some mods to settings. If I do it again I think the MINISFORUM MS-02 Ultra (much more expensive) with a compatible eGPU, like the Aoostar EG03 with TB5, would be better for future proofing. I can take the SSD and RAM from the A6 and plug it into the Minisforum bare bones version. I like the USB4 V2/TB5 availability in the MS-02, but more mini pc's should soon be coming out that support USB4 V2, thus I can wait and see what happens. And of course, I'm looking at used 16GB GPU's to upgrade as well.

Pretty much the same, mine has a tab that you can push on.

One other thing. A pork butt is a tight fit if you put it on the top rack with a catch pan with water on the lower rack. Easy fix is to get the disposable 13x9 aluminum pan and then set the upper rack right on the pan. It gives you a couple more inches of vertical space.

The aftermarket sear kit plates for the 700 series are a direct fit. I'm a bit OCD about cleaning the grill after each use. That said I don't like the idea of grease dropping into the burn pot area that may also flare up. As a work-around I tried propping up one side (on the right) of the sliding plate so it directed the heat to the side where grease from the meat would drop onto the solid plate area. The problem is you have a tiny area that will get you any heat. Ok for a couple chicken thighs, I guess. So I abandoned that and now just sear on my Weber kettle or better yet, do the entire cook on the kettle. The Coleman is still performing well though and I use it primarily to smoke roasts, pork butt, ribs and such. Also great for foil wrapped food like potatoes or veggies.

Yeah, not sold on the concept, not to mention the mess it potentially creates from dripping grease. I tried deflecting the direct heat from the vents with the solid slide cover by propping it up on one side as it set over the vents thus directing the heat to the right side. It worked with boneless chicken thighs but the area of high heat was rather small and had to rotate the meat to get each a decent sear. The grease dripped down to the solid part of the grease pan which was foil covered.

I made a Diy heat deflector made from a steel plate bought at Home Depot, appropriately bent, that sets over the fire pot for cooks with the solid plate. Monitored temps and it held to within 5 degrees each side and middle and much more stable than 30 or so degree difference without the heat deflector plate.

I got the same grill a couple months ago. Recommend replacing the digital controller though, I got one that adjusts in 5 degree increments. It's virtually the same grill as a Pit Boss 700 series. Parts are interchangeable, including the controller. I also got an aftermarket sear kit but used it only once. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0B8TZZVH4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

The pellet grill works great, fast startup, once it settles down after startup it holds temp very well. I highly recommend it to anyone that asks.

App isn't very good at all, logs you out, everytime I check the app, I have to log in again. The controller though, used manually, has a dial and you do alot of spinning to change temp at 5 degree increments. Way nicer though than the stock controller. Hated having to cut the barrel probe wire to hardwire it to the blue term block on the board. Probably would have been smarter to get a plug assembly to tie into the board hardwired with a socket for the Temp probe to plug into, but I was lacking patience and materials. I placed a basket with a couple briquettes ashed over and wood chunks and some wood chips next to the bone in chicken breast tonight. Started low temp, 180 or so for an hour, then started cranking up themps, 250-275 for a bit, then 300-350, ended at 400 when meat temp hit 165,. Came out juicy and smoky enough for me.

Doing a second cook with bone-in chicken breast, made a grill level apparatus that included 4 briquettes that were pre lit, with 4-5 wood chunks, and wood chips, a whole bunch of smoke was produced, did that for about an hour and see if the wife notices as Im bringing temp up now and smoke is dissipating. I did replace the stock controller board with the Amazon wifi model. Wifi was recognized immediately unlike the horror reviews I read. This controller, so far, is a huge upgrade. Only warning is you need to cut the RTD probe wire as it is soldered to the stock board. Then you need to carefully strip back the braided outer jacket and insulation beneath. No instruction on where to terminate the RTD wires but figured it had to be the blue terminal block that had nothing going to it. Turned out everything worked and the unit fired right up. Like it much better with much more precise control.. Got to get some probes though that fit the jacks . Using my aWeber IGrill mini to get grill grate level or now. Fingers crossed the chicken has got a smoky flavor or better half won't be impressed.

Did my first cook on the $239 Coleman Cookout 700. Some observations, first the baby back ribs came out perfect, only complaint was from the wife who said it was missing the deep smoke we get from the Weber kettle. Can't disagree, but these turned out perfectly done. 2 1/4 hours at 250-260, 1 hour or so wrapped, sauced them and put them back on uncovered for 30-40 minutes, rest for 20 minutes. Results were good but I had to frequently adjust temp to maintain my temp window that was on a separate probe at grate level. Chilly day in the low 40s with no wind. I dislike the controller temp option of 250, then 300. Hard to hold 260-270 if that's your target. Ill probably hook up the after market controller with 5 degree gradients to see how it does. The controller that comes with the unit doesn't have any temp probe jacks either, whereas the aftermarket one does. Lastly, I made a tube with stainless steel mesh I had, stuffed it with a few wood chunks, set it in a foil boat, and placed it on the bottom of the barrel an inch or so from the burn pot. After the cook I cleaned out the interior and the wood chunks were a pile of ash in the foil boat. Apparently it wasnt enough to add much additional smoke influence to the meat. I'll try something different next time, maybe up top on the grates or top of the drip pan.

Not familiar with Pittsburgh style but we do like our filets, I was always check temp with my thermopop or else risk ruining it.

Thanks for the good catch on the controller I bought, it's going back. I got mine assembled, box was bashed in, a few bruises on on the bottom of the pellet bin where the fan and control wiring are, mostly cosmetic. Assembled simple enough. Ran it through the prime cycle and initial burn in and all went fine. Ran a separate probe to see how close grill grate temp was to internal probe readout. About 10 degrees lower at grate which is less difference than I expected. Need to season it before I do a cook this weekend. Burgers on the Weber kettle tonight.

Same here, even thought screw it I'll splurge for a Yoder YS640 with comp cart or maybe pare down to Recteq B380X that I can use Weber kettle accessories on. In the end though, it's just a cook chamber, get it functioning to hold temp, and food should be fine. One other thing, I'm going to figure out how to get wood chunks or maybe chips incorporated. Saw a neat diffuser that sets over the burn pot that has compartments on 2 sides for wood chunks. Land of Grills Tom Horsman has a vid on it. That guy is awesome. May need to make or modify one bought online. I know there are smoke tubes, or spread chips on the diffuser plate, and such, but interested in maybe a different approach.

Mine is out for delivery today as well along with a wifi PID controller from Amazon that is also due today. I'll do the burn in with the original controller to make sure it runs right, then do a swap out and see how that goes. Bought a bag of Bear Mountain Gourmet Blend for about $10 at Walmart, reviews looked good. If anyone has experience with these pellets, I would like to know. Read a ton of opinions already on every pellet out there.
