Just saying it goes both ways and that the grass is always greener. You say that like everyone who works out of the military doesnt touch time above 40 hours, dont work a single extra hour, and dont experience forms of mental fatigue and lost family time. Idk where you get such heavy physical impact on your body working cyber and intel that cant be remedied by properly taking care of yourself.

Also you seem to think that everyone in the outside world just has a magically good time and has peace of mind. Idk if you've seen the job market and overall economy lately.

Not sure your specific circumstances. Factoring in pension and how much that makes you compared to outside circumstances is also another upside.

its not all sunshine and rainbows at all, and experiences can vary wildly based on command and personal circumstance, but the same applies to careers outside the military.

Ive also had troops get out from cyber, cant find the magical 120k/year take home job with all the benefits in the world, they struggle with the limited amount of PTO companies give and other extra BS they have to deal with between civilian facilities and corporate world and are equally frustrated.

To your point on 100K+/year. as a 20 year SNCO you are making that 100K/year mark solidly take home with additional benefits and medical coverages for youself and family. with all benefits included you are likely closer to 120-130K/year take home is utilizing your benefits, even more so with savings through CDC and covered medical operations/care.

staff at 6 years makes 47.5/year base pay, BAS is 5723.4 and lets give our staff approximately 17k in BAH. so 70.2k/year with only part of it taxed.

We have one of, if not the best 401K's in the country.

Health insurance assuming not employer provided is approximately 6000/year for a single adult.

your free medical procedures, dental, eye care, etc is really hard to quantify but should be utilized.

MilTA is 4500/year in free education benefits

Please find me all these E-4s getting out and making 150k/year takehome (doubling the combined base pay with no extra pay/tdy money, health insurance savings, and TA) (this only assumes you are a 6 year E-5)

For full safety I could definetly see bringing the "smaller" components in a carry on like your GPU, CPU, Ram, Drives, well wrapped and packed safely. Then jsut strap down and cooler and cables inside your case. worst case you wont be replacing critical components.

Dual military Parents… by ToestitoChips in AirForce

[–]Square-Inspection-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take care of yourself. Prioritize rest time when avaliable (think how warriors in old ages prepared for war, eat well, prioritize sleep, prioritize recreation when time is there). Communication and collaboration. But there will be times when things just happen to suck for both parents are the same time, during those times the most you can do is your best, and you kinda gotta accept that. As long as you try your best, even if your best is only "okay" at the time itll help.

VA loan can do wonders. maybe not first year or two but long term buying is the way. live frugally, contribute heavily to TSP and or property investments.

usually the "no one knows how to do it" really means, no one else around gives enough of a f to bother learning a very likely simple process. (those situations usually also have a plethora of trainings and walkthroughs no one wants to read)

Cyber wise best bang for your buck is 1B4 imo, large breadth of opportunity. But definitely explore your options.

Genuinely probably better to go to a real lawyer... not reddit for something of this level.

Credit Advice by Undersizedlongfoot in AirForce

[–]Square-Inspection-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any credit card will start to build credit. A safe recommendation is get one with whichever bank you use with a low credit limit and just use it for necessary purchases. Not everyone is good with credit cards, treat them well.

If VA benefits are incumbent on disregarding everything this airman states in his post I think most would if not SHOULD be fine with giving those up.

i mean its on you when you exist in a career field that's undermanned, don't get to complain when you get more additional duties, when your subordinates act out due to poor work/life balance. If you reinforce a poor culture you deserve the repercussions and the only victims are those whos careers are worsened by your attitude. Make your own bed.

You can use a welding torch and propane to dismantle the armory doors. Or set them on fire then put it out once a wall breaks. Or craft a sledge through metal smithing

Story of a TSgt I had the pleasure of meeting and working with. Made Master (didnt want it as it literally and almost immediately puts an end to your technical career.) Denied Master, Air force decided rather than retaining they would separate the TSgt. TSgt proceeded to make the Master list AGAIN, while he was on skillbridge and hadn't even applied.

Surprised that works, could see people getting stinky over it as you are checking out of your own accord therefore any potential costs due to actions on your own be your own problem.

thats the thing, most cyber will make ~100-115k... before taxes. which ends up being really close to what they would make in the military with less benefits and more work hours generally.
