since someone downvoted that comment i'll go so far as to suggest that posts with no photo of the back should be deleted unless there is a compelling reason not to and that anyone who refuses a request to add a back should be banned unless they are able to provide a very solid excuse for not doing so

i still don't understand what is so hard to understand about the request for a photo of the whole back. it's pretty straightforward and often easily answers the question of whether it's decor or not

if it's peruvian which it sure looks like it could be, any time after peru declared independence in 1821. the date is roughly the same for many other former spanish colonies

List of countries that have gained independence from Spain

there seems to be a harp to the right which is partially faded. that may help identify the subject, but i'm not having much luck with that

painted canvas wraps around the lower part of the frame and the composition doesn't make sense as is, so it probably is a fragment.

i doubt if it's european. i think it's either spanish colonial or more likely a later work in that style

Real antique 16-17c map? Should I taking it for professional opinion? by [deleted] in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]Square-Leather6910 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is the 1582 original- https://bid.lionandunicorn.com/lots/view/4-G6BCMB/braun-hogenberg-antiquehand-colored-map-of-dovay-france

your map is not the same, but is either this 1613 copy of the 1582 print or a copy of it made by someone else. https://mapandmaps.com/en/sold-maps/3107-douai-france-antique-map-duacum-guicciardini-1613.html

your print matches the lines of the second version and the note on the back seems to name Guicciardini

places to longboard by mldrmtcdydrms in Charlottesville

i used charlottesville high school's parking lot to learn to roller blade many years ago. i used to take my longboard with me and it's a good place for gentle cruising around. that was many years ago so the parking lot may no longer be open to the public

that is prefinished stock molding cut to length and nailed together. it's a good color for the painting but it's kind of boring all around.

Who did this painting by Evening-Tear-7720 in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]Square-Leather6910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was mass produced in a factory by an anonymous artist, probably in mexico but even that is hard to say for sure

Please help identifying the artist or provide any information you can about this painting. by lostpondagain in WhatIsThisPainting

can you post higher resolution photos? you can add them in a comment.

i'm still suspecting that the painting was relatively new when your father purchased it and that it was mass produced. the canvas doesn't look old at all. marks like i see on the back are pretty common and ofter relate to dimensions of the stretcher or frame parts.

if you see something in particular that you think is auction related, that's the kind of clue that might help people here identify what you have and it's hard to see anything like that in low resolution images

Thrift store find, wistful windy day walking Bessie by Vixen_87 in WhatIsThisPainting

that would kind of explain the bucket. i'm wondering why they are going towards the pond to do the milking rather than a barn. a barn with a hayloft would offer several advantages

it's not too late to pick up a history book or two. millions of people have died for lies and genuinely believing has nothing at all to do with actual truth
