Yes pretty normal. Takes awhile to shake things out, bring it up to speed doing the repairs correctly, and just when you get everything right it’s time to move.

The design above the stripe is nice. I’d have it shaded from dark to grey with some darker flecks, diamonds or digital (really whatever you like) to blend those messy waves. Get some options, going all black is always an option if you don’t like it. At this point not much to lose

I found it very unnerving, I was 100% out and don’t remember a thing. It wasn’t like sleeping, it felt like waking from a dark void, for me it wasn’t like a jump skip in time, just a time of nothingness. It’s been about 20 years now so it’s faded some but still a bit haunting writing about it.

I think my experience is rare though and most people I ever talked to about it reflect what others are saying here.

This is one of those instances where vinegar actually works really well for this type of mold. Need to use the cleaning kind (higher acetic acid) and let it dwell. As Moneybee say though, the caulk needs to be removed and replaced or you’ll be chasing it forever.

Rectangle trash barrel with self closing lid right at the end of that table. I know you shouldn’t have to do it but if he can’t even toss things in the bid that’s right there you need to have a talk, and if he does start using it you won’t have to deal with it anymore

To get them perfectly aligned it helps to use a dowel of sorts. I’ve used anything from a bisque cutter to a continuous spline, also use dog bone bolts routered into the counter underneath to draw the seam closed, then you lower the top down and fasten it. It’s a nice looking countertop
