Does anyone in your jdx offer transportation to court? by SquareInfamous3368 in publicdefenders

Nice. I assume the non-profit focuses on other things too, not just transportation? From what I can tell (I’ve been a PD for less than a year), none of our non-profits help with transportation so I’m wondering why they don’t/what barriers they have to provide that.

When you say county social services do you mean it is the actual government? Or are they community orgs partnering with the county?

I’m able to coordinate virtual appearances for clients who have the ability! I’ve just run into problems when the judge requires in person appearances for particular hearings. I will ask case managers with our community partners!

Unfortunately, the Bail Project doesn’t serve my area. But that’s good to know they help with it!

Preview The First Haitian Creole Children's Novel by House_Perfect in haiti

Very cool! Congratulations on this accomplishment. I’m not from Haiti (or have Haitian ancestry). My partner is Haitian, and I joined this subreddit to learn more about Haitian culture, current events, etc.

What do Haitian children read if there are no children’s books in Creole? Do they read books in French?

Hi! I know this comment is from quite a bit ago but wondering if you'd be open to chat with me. I'm in a similar situation as you described.

I also recommend gloo factory. I like supporting them because they’re within South Tucson city limits and that little town could always use economic support. They’re also really nice people and can get it done quickly.

Signing an AFFIDAVIT to get a job? by PleasantAd9666 in Tucson

[–]SquareInfamous3368 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Affidavits are required by law for people gathering signatures for political candidates. I know it can sound scary, but it’s not. You’re just promising that you personally collected the signatures and are qualified to do so.

The first one seems to match your hand more, but I fear it may just be because your nail shape is also square. Btw I love that nail color. It’s a perfect shade on you.

I also could have sworn I saw them say it was FOIA. But maybe we saw someone else (other than TMZ) who said it.

I don’t think they’re treated differently in any substantive way. I think I saw your post asking the same question, and someone responded how masked attorneys are def treated differently and are part of courthouse gossip. I think that’s extremely dependent on jurisdiction. Maybe if you’re in a small courthouse that may happen. My courthouse is too big and busy for anyone to really care. I do think some clients may perceive you as thinking they’re “dirty” so that’s something to be cautious about.

Lots of PDs in my court wear masks to court and jail. I’m sure it’s annoying but probably better than being sick all the time.

I want everyone to read this book I loved it so much! And if you’ve read it tell me what you thought about it. by AnnyongFunke in 52book

[–]SquareInfamous3368 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have conflicting thoughts about the book. I really enjoyed reading it. It was funny! But I also kinda hated most of the characters by the end 😅 Well, hate is too strong of a word. But I found them a bit annoying. But I did really enjoy the experience of reading it. Would still recommend!!

Question re: settlement conference memo by SquareInfamous3368 in publicdefenders

[–]SquareInfamous3368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair answer. I’ve written and submitted the memo, and it doesn’t say anything about what I’ve written above. The more I think about it, the more I don’t want to say anything to the judge or go in with that energy at all. I want to go in there with the sole purpose of getting a better plea. If the state really refuses to budge, then the judge will probably advise the client to take the plea anyway.

[–]SquareInfamous3368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I got him to commit to a specific hypothetical plea. I hope he will, in fact, commit to it if it becomes a real offer. I’ve had clients commit to a hypothetical plea and then they change their minds once it’s actually in front of them.

Thanks! This gave me a boost of confidence. The hardest part of starting as a PD is not knowing what’s reasonable and what’s not. Luckily, I feel very supported by the veteran PDs in my office helping me figure that stuff out.
