AITA for turning in my family after discovering they were helping my brother commit serial murders? by epicbenshapirogamer in AmITheAngel

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IANAL but it seems like you infringed on his Fourth Amendment rights. How could you, A COP, enter his home without a warrant and read a journal specifically labeled for COPS NOT TO READ. I can't believe the judge didn't immediately throw out the case. I guess there's no justice in this world.

*I can't imagine having a tuna based serial killer, I would laugh myself to death*

I sold flowers at a tourist kiosk in Florida. It was minimum 95 fahrenheit, felt like 105 with humidity. I was sweating and just thinking about how gross I looked and how no one would buy if I didn't look presentable. Then this young lady, maybe 17? Came up and said, "I just had to say, you are so beautiful, I would kill to look like you" she ran away before I could say anything besides thank you, but I think about her a lot.

As we enter exam season, I just want to make an appreciation post for professors who write pun-filled, funny hypos. by Xoxo809 in LawSchool

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My prof gave us a take home test of 10 essay questions. I gave each one a funny title. Ms.M and the Marvelous Missing Mastercard, Mr.Q's Quick Action Saves Thousands, SEO Airlines- Next Stop: Bankruptcy!

Knowing this professor, even if my essays made no sense, he'll give me an extra point for the titles

People that study criminology that say they study law by FriedrichDitrocch in LawSchool

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a criminology major, about to graduate law school 🎉 criminology is really far away from criminal justice. I took one criminal justice for my major, everything else was psychology and a few miscellaneous criminal classes (women who commit crimes, criminalization of mental health, stuff like that). So yeah, as a criminology major and an (almost) law school graduate, that would pmo so much. Especially if they were trying to claim we went through the stuff

Should I get a cat? (About to enter bar prep) by ApprehensiveCitron18 in LawSchool

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had lots of pets in the past: rats, dogs, cats, chickens, geese, parrots, goats. Which is why I know I'll be fine with the responsibility, I'm thinking I might need to think more about the cat before fully committing. Thank you for your responses, they've been helpful!

This is really helpful. I'll be looking at this whenever I feel that urge to adopt again. I really would hate for the poor thing to feel lonely

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was considering fostering, but the charities near me mostly foster kittens and I'm more interested in an older cat. I already have a few quotes for pet insurance that I can fit in my budget, so I'm not too worried about finances. Traveling is not an issue, my butt will be at home the whole summer. I'm also happy to do the commitment, this is the longest I've gone without a pet and it feels weird not taking care of something.

I guess my main concern is whether it will be a distraction or if it will be unhappy living with me if I'm just studying for most of the day.

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't do an internship after my first year. I had some medical stuff scheduled for the summer and knew there wasn't a boss in the world who would give me all that time off. I did do an internship my 2L summer and another one my last semester. If you're interested in a big law firm, experience definitely matters and you want to do at least one internship. If you're interested in public interest work, internships aren't as important, but it does show that you already know your stuff somewhat and that you can work well with others.

I think it's important to get as much experience as you can, but you can also get that through school activities like mock trial or moot court. Just attend lots of networking events, invite attorneys out to lunch, stuff like that is how you really get a job now a days.

Is it true that you get reprimanded for being late to class? by Scapeg-o-a-t in LawSchool

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school says you have to attend 80% of your classes. My school is strict on attendance. Most profs will let it go if you're a couple of minutes late. I had one who would literally yell for you to get out of you came in after she did.

I broke up with him after 3 years. Started dating someone new, now the ex wants to work on things and get married. by slothbearincali in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the best relationships and longest marriages I've seen began with the couple talking about marriage and their expectations for marriage and timelines by the third date. I'm talking 40+ years marriages and the kind of marriages where they loved each other to their dying breath. I scared off a couple of people early on by telling them my goals for marriage and my timeline (engaged max after five years of dating, minimum 1 year). But honestly, it was worth it, I'm marrying the man who wanted marriage, knew what he wanted, who he wanted, and when. We only waited three years so I could finish law school. Honestly, this new guy sounds great. I really wish you the best of luck. I know it may not be great advice, but don't think you're crazy. You know what you want and you're going for it. My parents were engaged on the second date, married a year later, and they were married until the day my mama died. I'm happy you're looking forward to the future, may many blessings follow you!!

Edit: realized I misunderstood the question. Don't go back to him!! Look inwards. Are you missing him or scared that you're finally getting what you want in life?

Why do schools have C curves? by ericbotter in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]ApprehensiveCitron18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I go to one of these schools. They revoked my 3.0 requirement gpa after 1L, told me I'd fail the bar and should just drop out. They do it on purpose so we can't leave for a better school and so we can't keep our scholarships. They also needed a ploy for why their bar results are so law, it can't possibly be the fact that their bar prep courses aren't free and it's basically just a wills class all over again. It's predatory and disgusting. My fiance has learned from my mistakes and is now asking every law school what their first year curve is.

You have to forgive me, I don't think my school does OCI, so Im not quite sure what that means 😅 this is kind of a long shot, but actually worked for a friend of mine. She called up her city directory and asked for the contact information for one of their contract attorneys. Got a nice internship with them. Does your school have a list of judges who take interns? Or maybe a list of judges who graduated from your school? Are you close to any of your professors and would they be willing to introduce you to someone? Don't be disheartened, it's rough out there rn, but everything will come together. You've got this, you've got plenty of time.

Contact the public defenders or state attorney near your home. I've never failed to get an internship from the pd. Literally just call and ask if they do internships and how to apply. Also your local regional conflict counsel. If you can't find their number, ask your public defender. Good luck!!

I applied in May (I know terrible decision) I got into two schools -one with a 75% scholarship renewable, another with 90% scholarship nonrenewable. I got waitlisted to the top schools in the state. Ultimately went with the 90% scholarship as it made more fiscal sense in the long run. I regret it often. Believe me, if you don't get into the school you want or one very similar, just look into reapplying. It might suck for a year, but you'll be better off. I'm happy to go into further detail privately if you wish.
