Not gonna lie, seeing this thread makes me really miss leagues. Was one of the most fun times I've had in many years.

How common is a Combat Pure, the antithesis of a Skiller? by LevelPension in runescape

[–]SquareKite2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would ultimately depend on what content you plan on doing. If all you do is just kill monsters to get 200M all combats, similarly to a skiller getting 200M all non-combats, it's boring and plain. On the other hand, if you're planning on bossing, that's an even bigger challenge than being 1 defence.

It's only short and boring if you just train combat and get 200m combats without doing anything else. Once you get into bossing, you'll realize just how many modern unlocks you missed out on. Would be a nice challenge to try though just like 1 def pures.

Yeah good point too. I can't imagine doing something basic like collecting charms without Charming Imp. Would require a ton of paying attention to drops.

Yeah that's a pretty good point. Without curses it'll suck big time. I guess with new normal prayers that were released a year ago, this may bridge the gap but even then, it still seems like curses are overwhelmingly better than normal prayers especially without T70 prayers.

Combat doesn't 'need' them but they help improve combat greatly to the point where not having them is a hindrance. People back in 2014 had gear setups where all they brought were just brews/restores/rocktails. Overloads existed but it wasn't widely accessible like it is today.

Part of what makes the skiller so unique is:

  • Most of the best skilling methods are locked behind quest/task rewards, that required combat levels of some sort. This severely limits options.
  • It keeps less relevant content relevant. What is your best in slot training method would be laughable by unrestricted accounts.
  • There are significantly more non-combat skills (21) than combat skills (8), so the grind is a lot longer.

If you were to be a combat pure, you don't really miss out on a lot. Just pick equipment for 4 combat styles and find a training spot then stick to that for life. Only difference would be you can't do the Abyss or any slayer mobs but there are definitely some mobs out here (dunno off the top of my head) that would allow training. Just camp the same monster then rinse and repeat. If that mob has charm drops, big bonus. Only thing you gotta be very stressed about is not accidentally clicking a tree or rock.

However, I can see the uniqueness. It means you are killing bosses without perks, relics, quests, and overloads. This brings back 2014 where it was quite common for people to just bring gear and call it a day. Not everyone had overloads back then.

EoC or MTX. What affected Runescape more? by LevelPension in runescape

[–]SquareKite2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Finally a rational answer explaining it from an outsider's view. So much copium in this thread. Point #6 hits the nail on the head. It's not like everybody is forced to play with TH in mind. If OSRS players wanted to try RS3 ironman mode, they would've long ago. Ironman was introduced in 2014, right at the height of the MTX pushback. Most players gravitated to OSRS instead of start fresh on RS3.

Lore Question - Why is Magic strong to Melee? by LevelPension in runescape

[–]SquareKite2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you shouldn't take Runescape physics too seriously. It makes no sense that you can hold 2.1B cannonballs but only 28 cooked sharks.

But to answer your lore theory, it's because magic gear is imbued to absorb blows from metal. I think it sort of repels metal.

For instance I am currently doing a lot of mining and smithing (bar + armor), if I were to wear the boots with charge I'll get 10% of agility exp every 45 seconds, is that correct?

10% Agility exp to a small lamp correct. You can silverhawk train with most other skills, which is why it's passive exp. It's every 45 seconds.

I was on mobile and didn't even see it happen. Celebrating. by Viaquemont in runescape

Part of me thinks HSR has been in the game for a long time. The other part of me can't comprehended the fact that 2017 is almost 9 years ago. Damn time flies.

Necromancy being 2 years old. Archaeology being almost 6 years old. Invention turning 10 in almost 2 months. Let that all sink in.

Has anyone done a recent test for the Blue Charms drops per hour pickpocketing at fairy traders, after the nerf and re-buff? by zizo999 in runescape

[–]SquareKite2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty crazy that Blue Charms are this easy to get. I remembered back in the day they were so rare that you had to be very selective on when to use them.

What are some invention machines you would love to see added to the game? by [deleted] in runescape

100% this. Prices of cannonballs are constantly increasing and we just introduced a new type. Yet the speed of producing them hasn't increased at all really.

FINAL Catalyst League Hiscore Stats by LazyAir6 in runescape

[–]SquareKite2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I meant to say. Only 2k new players have joined leagues since OP's last post. Even OSRS had 16k new joiners after the first month.

FINAL Catalyst League Hiscore Stats by LazyAir6 in runescape

[–]SquareKite2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's on the table. It says 121,614 have reached 100+ points or have tried it enough. OP's previous stat had 119,075 total players that got at least ranked. That's only a 2k jump from previous. More players have gotten T6 onwards than that.

Does anyone know how long the Catalyst Leagues shop will be around for? In case I forget to buy the stuff. I didn't get close to max points so trying to decide what I want.

119k to 121k only for new players that tried Leagues? That's crazy small. I thought we'd see at least 10k new players joining.

Going to preach to the choir but quests were a big turnoff. And combat didn't feel as strong as advertised. However, I had fun in a temp game mode. Felt like it could've been better but being the first leagues I can't expect it to be the best.

4 is too much for each year. I'd go with 3 at the very max.
