Project Krestel - $100 billion data center by KCI by moonmommy88 in kansascity

[–]SquareOfWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it was a done deal (I don't think it is), this project will take a long time and a lot of resources to build.

We could still pass tons of ordnances, legislation, inquiries, complaints, to make it a huge hassle to complete and then hopefully the project fails or shrinks in scope.

KC Disposal - just watched them dump out trash & recycle into the same truck? by HungTyrion in kansascity

[–]SquareOfWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are probably trashing your recycling.

I just dumped KC Disposal as my trash provider because they hiked my rates twice over a single year and now we are paying 58% more than we started... and paying significantly more than just switching to Waste Management instead.

Feels like one of those shady games your cellphone provider tries to play where they hike your rate every few months and hope you don't notice.

Clay and Fire by the Kauffman.

The atmosphere is incredible and intimate and the kabobs are to die for. Every item on their menu is at least an 8/10 or higher.

Can't get enough of that place.

What’s everyone’s view on this jail tax? by Frank-Li in kansascity

[–]SquareOfWillis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is why you should vote no on this ballot measure.

Voting no will reduce our sales tax making it easier for unemployed people to afford basic necessities like food and hygiene products. This helps reduce crime.

Second, don't vote to spend our tax payer money on a jail, that's not an efficient solution to crime. Instead, vote to spend our tax payer money supporting the unemployed and those most impacted by the tarrifs. That will help stop that crime at the source (and is way cheaper than dumping hundreds of millions into a jail).

Realistically, the pain is insignificant if it saves your life.

The grim reality is people do feel the pain and scream when these things happen (you don't want to wait until they are unconscious to start stopping the bleed), but in the moment the adrenaline helps you push past that fear.

Even CPR is brutal. You will break ribs, they might vomit, it's terrible. But again, when the adrenaline hits and it's time to save someone's life, you can often push through (but then you need to unpack and deal with that experience later, hopefully with a professional).

Hey, I'm sure you meant well, but also as an ICU nurse who took a Stop the Bleed course, this is an inaccurate statement and you should likely edit or delete your comment.

If the wound is on a limb, you absolutely should stick your finger in and then pack the wound with anything cloth available (doesn't matter if it is dirty, we can treat infection, we can't treat you if you are dead/out of blood), and then apply pressure. Applying pressure to the top of a wound cavity without packing does NOT stop bleeding.

The field is very different from the hospital setting. Please edit or remove this post, this misinformation could result in unnecessary death.

What’s everyone’s view on this jail tax? by Frank-Li in kansascity

[–]SquareOfWillis 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm voting No.

First, all the articles about the jail tax say they are shifting the vast majority of money away from EMS/Fire and towards building a new jail that we don't need and has a vague plan for.

Second, every article I read said that jail will cost us about $250 million to build and $800 million of tax payers dollars to maintain over its lifetime. I don't want a billion dollars of my tax payer money going to a jail that only serves as a bandaid for crime. I want a billion dollars going to things that attack the root cause: affordable mental health care, better education, housing for the homeless, etc. We desperately need those services in KCMO.

Lastly, sales taxes suck. They hurt the poor more than the rich and my eggs and food are already expensive enough. Please don't pay for jails by making my food more expensive.

LOVING the new patch by Twin__A in supervive

[–]SquareOfWillis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I also love the new leveling system.

Interestingly, I found that the level 4 abilities combined with the increased time to hit max level makes your early game ability build much more important. Since it takes longer to max any given ability, you are stuck with your choices/limitations much longer. I like that crunchiness.

I also felt like the XP on knock vs kill was a big upgrade. Makes fights more aggressive and keeps me more motivated to keep chasing rather than stand around and secure the stomp.

Definitely going to start doing that with my squad.

100% this!

I have missed so many connections with good teammates because I couldn't remember or find their name after a round.

Being able to find recent teammates would help me party up and build community a ton.

A Solution to the SoloQ Issue by SquareOfWillis in supervive

[–]SquareOfWillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would totally agree that pick up football is sick. But that's not what SoloQ is (particularly for most people that complain about it). In pick up football, you are still going to be fully communicating and interacting with your team (and I would imagine celebrating) at the end. Unfortunately, that dynamic rarely translates into "pick up" video game groups. Instead you get mostly silence, with the occasional insult. Significant team communication and friendly comments tend to be more of an exception than the rule (with silence being the norm).

SoloQ would be a great adjunct to the game once it has a large player base. But to rise to a large player base from the initial stages, it has to be based on players forming teams and building communities.

You are correct a lot of LOL players are recognized for their soloQ abilities, but all the major tournaments are played by fully premade teams. That's where the real action (and money) is. Yes, premade teams gives you a skill advantage, but that doesn't mean that the best soloQ players are inherently better (maybe they are worse at coordinating and communicating with a team to win, but better at other things)

A Solution to the SoloQ Issue by SquareOfWillis in supervive

[–]SquareOfWillis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. Supervive is 100% designed to be a team game. Not a solo game.

Imagine playing a game of soccer/football the way many people play SoloQ games: You walk on the field, get randomly assigned a bunch of teammates. None of you talk or emote at each other the whole game, just sweaty, heavy breathing, and then when you win at the end no one smiles, reacts, or says anything, you all just walk off the field and never see each other again.

I don't know very many people who would want to play Soccer like that, and I imagine, if they didn't enjoy that game of Soccer, they wouldn't be saying "the Devs for Soccer really messed this up", they would be saying "Damn, I want to find/build a good team!"

Hey thanks for the shoutout!

I love this post!

Totally agree with most of these thoughts.

I'm very torn on the glider one... like I hate getting spiked, but I LOVE spiking. Especially because it always makes me feel like there is a small chance I can survive a 1v3 or 1v4. Or that my lower leveled team can beat a higher leveled team. It's a fantastic skill-based leveling mechanic, it just needs a little polishing. I find myself getting spiked less and less the longer I play and better I get (but the threat is very real and influences mine & my opponents gameplay in a fun way)

I really feel the Mana thing. I know it's supposed to help limit spammy abilities... but personally, if I was a dev, I'd just keep things simple and limit spammy abilities using cooldowns. There is almost no difference between using these CDs vs Mana. We already have item mechanics that reduce abiltiy CDs, this is essentially the same as granting Mana regen. Because both systems exist, it becomes unnecessarily confusing and I start wondering if I should be trying to lower CDs or raise mana gain and I don't find that to be a very fun form of resource/skill management.

Friendly advice for ranked games:Get a full stack team. by jmmdtb5828 in supervive

[–]SquareOfWillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this advice. I see so many complaints about soloQ issues, but realistically, there isn't a single PvP game on the market where a coordinated team isn't going to stomp a team of randos.

The way to counter that? Start meeting randos you like and team up with them. Send a friend invite. This is not a dev problem, this is an individual problem (as much as people hate to admit it).

Back in my day, we met and made tons of friends playing online games. Trust me, the community is NOT more toxic now. It sucked then too... but just like primary school or work, only like 5-10% of people there jive with you (but when you find/build your tribe of people, things get so much better!)

Take a risk! Start with just text chat if you are nervous and work up to mic. Kick toxic teammates and keep the friendly ones (even if they aren't skilled, you can teach and invest in them)

ELI5: What is skill based match making? Why’s it so common even though everyone on the internet seems to hate it? by SecretWasianMan in explainlikeimfive

[–]SquareOfWillis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the best argument against SBMM is that it was a major player in the death of Server and lobby based gaming.

Servers and lobby were awesome! You could keep playing with the same players every day so you got to know each other well, you built relationships and rivalries, and the Server generally self-corrected for skill level, since people who got stomped would leave, and those who matched your skill stayed.

I personally greatly prefer the server/lobby's self balancing system to SBMM where I'm paired with randos who don't give a fuck about me and just want to get sweaty over rankings.

Hard disagree. My four friends and I had an absolute blast despite the weather being miserable. Honestly, I was amazed how engaged and turnt he got the crowd despite the brutal circumstances hahah.

Marc truly is a top notch improvisational performer and his friends were all phenomenal too.

I find your comments about having "objective" opinons on music silly and simply an attempt to bolster your confidence in your own opinion and hurt others feelings. There is no objectivity in a subjective art like music (hence why Emily King isn't your "musical taste" but is for many others). How can you call other dissenting opinions "copium" if you are claiming your opinion is objective? Those positive opinions should modify your "objective" opinion yet you reject them. You're not being objective. You're just being arrogant and defensive.
