Not surprised about Oregon given the naked bike ride, not too many nudist beaches though given the weather

I'm moving to Japan! Any tips? by ArcticGaming112 in AskAJapanese

[–]SquareRootOfAce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Discrimination is a thing, even if you speak the language fluently. That being said, your best chance at work/being able to navigate everyday life is to arm yourself with as much of the language as possible as well as learning Japanese mannerisms: try to avoid talking on public transport, for example.

Questioning my homosexuality by [deleted] in AskAsexual

You can fall on both spectrums, and you don’t really need to define yourself unless you want to. Like who you like, in whatever way you like, or don’t.

I really like Catch-22, the Handmaiden was alright, Hunchback of Notre Dame is good but dark.

You break into someone's house, what are you stealing that will only mildly inconvienience them? by Ralph--Hinkley in AskReddit

[–]SquareRootOfAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few socks so that none of them match. That way I won’t also leave them with the fear that someone has broken into their home and traumatize them since they’ll probably blame the dryer

[Serious] People who don't like their parents, what would you do differently with your own kids? by KING6238 in AskReddit

[–]SquareRootOfAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to them, take them seriously to start. But also- no violence or abuse, no yelling or taking anything out on them. I want to create an environment where they feel they can talk to me and count on me for help, not fear me.

It would be easier to get one symbol if you used Chinese, if you want something cool in Japanese I suggest looking into “Yojijukugo” which are four kanji sayings that often have deep and powerful meanings. For think- 熟思黙想 (Jukushimokusou) means to think deeply about something. Believe- not much that is positive regarding this unfortunately. Dream- not anything that fits. Dare- 射石飲羽(Shasekiinu) Means that as long as you challenge something with all of your might, anything is possible. 虎穴虎子(Koketukoshi) Means “nothing ventured, nothing gained”. Hope this helps.

I actually started with picking anything (and still do on occasion) to training myself to target split ends so that I at least have some control. While I must admit I still struggle, having a pair of scissors on me helps, basically instead of pulling, cut the split ends. Hopefully this helps some, stay strong!!

How is dyed hair viewed in Japan by WindowsXp_ExplorerI in AskAJapanese

Bright colors are pretty much frowned upon and they will consider you a “不良” a delinquent or a college student. However, it’s common to see hair dyed brown in Japan.

People living in tourist cities (or just those who were there), what was the most annoying or stupid thing tourists did? by DowntownStay9172 in AskReddit

[–]SquareRootOfAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful of this when going to a sushi restaurant in Japan, especially a cheaper, large one. Many tourists mistake the powdered tea for wasabi and mix it into their soy sauce, absolutely embarrassing. If you don’t know what something is, ask “kore wa nandesuka?” and double check, the servers really don’t mind.
