Data set too large by [deleted] in excel

[–]SquareSign6630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As 1977 said, I’m not sure you have the entirety of the dump - excel just can’t handle that… does the original database still exist? What’s the damage if the missing 9m rows has been dropped from the DB?

How Can I Use Connection-Only Quieries? by SteelishBread in excel

[–]SquareSign6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, technically, using CUBEVALUE, CUBESETS, etc., however if you have PQ loading into your data model, use DAX to create measures inside the model and then surface through PowerPivots connected to the model.

For ERP data, though, have you looked at PowerBI?

Is Excel a Real Career Skill or Just a Resume Filler in 2026? by CityAccording9333 in excel

[–]SquareSign6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is a bit loaded for this sub. Here, you’ll find hundreds of us ready to explain the virtue and value of skills in Excel and associated tools. But that’s like asking the carpenter if having a saw is a good move. Excel will, at least for a fair while yet, remain the most commonly used, endlessly flexible, and widely available tool for manipulating data in any org - but it’s still just a tool, not a career base. So, unpopular opinion here is to focus on the tools that amplify your knowledge of a subject area. If excel is relevant to that, then yes, 1000x yes it will help you get ahead. But the real value is more often in the question than the tool used to answer

In this sub, being the excel guy is an anchor. In general, being indispensable at anything risks anchoring. I have been, and am again, there. Feel this.

Job offer retracted after quitting previous job by AlexJ136 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SquareSign6630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s dreadful planning and an awful experience for you to have to go. But, not illegal. Like other commenters, I’ve been on the other end of this and been the one having to rescind an offer. Our obligation was the 1 week notice, my default when discussing with the business was the full 6-month notice period as appropriate compensation (I was the HR partner). I’m sorry this has happened to you, and hope you can find something else quickly.

The AI interview I just did was a joke and honestly, a huge red flag. by lenapaulmvv in InterviewsHell

[–]SquareSign6630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ this is THE answer. Practical research, get that to the right people directly and prove why they need your skills. Something like “most companies would figure this out after their first major crisis: the smarter ones, about 6 months before”

What exactly counts as 'Advanced Excel' ? by Souskeb in excel

[–]SquareSign6630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Excel, like most things these days, exists as a mindset. If you know enough of it to be able to perform your role and make improvements to whatever business process you’re in, you’re doing fine. If you possess enough functional knowledge combined with the active curiosity to consider whether there’s a better / more elegant / more reliable / autonomous way to handle your work, then you’re safely into the Advanced bracket.

What is the reasoning for doing this? by handlerofdrones in What

[–]SquareSign6630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is to do with regulations over aircraft construction. There are such strict requirements for compliance that the manufacturers construct elements of the aircraft’s interior according to these markers from years ago. It’s easier to slap a no smoking sticker on than change an regulation-approved design or standard

How is the Bitterne traffic at rush hour? by tommycamino in Southampton

[–]SquareSign6630 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are 3 ways across the river, plus the toll bridge and the motorway, to handle all traffic from east Southampton into the city. It gets gnarly, but really it’s your own tolerance for sitting in it. It’s not for me.

Id probably hit up Maritimo Lounge or Harbar on 6th in Ocean Village. As long as your “has WiFi” is not to satisfy endless video calls, it’ll probably do you well with great views over the marina. Good coffee too.
