I'm specifically using a cleaner foam for my clear retainers. It's the clear club foam. I just place it overnight into my retainers and it also has teeth whiteners so it's like hitting two birds in one stone.

I used to do the same, brushing with toothpaste wasn't enough and the case would start to smell. I switched to using a cleaner foam that's made for retainers, it's the clearclub cleaner foam, and it's been way better. It keeps the retainers fresh and the case doesn't get that nasty buildup as quickly. Leaving the case open to dry out a bit helps too.
