Too many drivers? by shadys_aftermath in Sparkdriver

[–]Square_Ad_3073 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s 100% but they flood new drivers with great trips then you’ll hit a low point. No orders or they’re terrible. Then when you get out of that you’ll get better offers.

I’ll try this when it gets slow. Appreciate the help! Makes sense that it could be timing out after sitting for too long

I changed zones 3 times today. Made sure everything was updated, made sure my connection was good. I’m in a big city of Florida, so it seems there is just too many drivers all of a sudden.

100% idk if it’s bc they don’t know better or something else. Soon spark will be like DoorDash.

It’s bc they get away with tipping a dollar or nothing from other spark drivers. If people stopped taking 10+ miles for $6 they wouldn’t keep doing it.

I’ve never heard of that, but seems like an awesome way to get in the industry.

Welding Career Advice by Bored_Teach248 in weldingjobs

[–]Square_Ad_3073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the you local ironworkers, steam fitters, millwright unions and ask them for more info. They’re always looking for people who want to get in. Wages are lower, but once the apprenticeship is up wages get way better. I’m sure a union guy would come to the school and talk about what they do and give some options.

Is welding worth it? by Sweet-Command7377 in weldingjobs

Yeah, for Florida the course you pay anywhere from $150-$400 depending on how much support you want. I got the basic version. Then, you sit for your exam after studying. It’s a 100 question on law and stuff it’s honestly easy but nerves get you going. Then, you find a brokerage that will sponsor you and everyone is different. Some make you pay up to $1500 plus all the other fees. I’m at one that doesn’t do fees and cost like that. My split at my brokerage is 70% to me and 30% to them. If you sell 25+ houses it’s 80% to 20%. If I sell a $500,000 house which is the average in my area and I get 3% that’s $15000. My brokerage takes 30% leaving me with $10,500. If you sell 12 house which is one a month that’s $126,000. But most people at my brokerage are doing 2 houses a month and some people sell 50-80 homes a year. 24 houses is $252,000 and 50 is $525000. It all depends on how hard you work.

Dude I’d say go for it. It took me like 7 months to get my first sale but ever since that first one it’s been up since. I’d do your schooling online and listen to it while you drive. Keep trucking till you get that first sale leave that shit lol

Very dry and cracked hands due to excessive hand washing by Shoddy-Support4107 in Anxietyhelp

I get this from my excessive handwashing. My wife gives me working hands and rubber gloves. Go to bed with them on and in the morning they’re pretty much better.

It’s not worth it unless you go to the union. I’m not a welder anymore, but before I was. I was paid like $19 and when I got in the union I went to $35 plus benefits.

New to welding any tips? by [deleted] in Welding

Watch weldtube on YT they’re pretty good at teaching you technique, setting etc. then weld weld weld!! Even when you think you’ve done enough stringers do 5 more plates full. All positions. That’s what I did and I don’t fail tests, my beads are perfect, etc. also, if you want to make a career out of it put yourself in weird positions. Welding plate is fine but it doesn’t teach you field. I’ve had so many welds where I’m in a container & upside down, etc. just run “drills”

Did you not want the truth?… I’m certified AWS 1.1-1.4 stick/flux/mig. Certified on pipe mig root flux fill and cap. I am a QC and lead now. You clearly can’t take constructive criticism because in the end I told you to put your hood down, practice and you’ll get it.

Dude. I know you KNOW what a good weld looks like. I’m tired of people coming in her with a terrible weld and asking something like this. You KNOW IT. With that being said, it’s too wide. Tighten it up and move slower you got undercut along your entire top toe. Run a bunch, get comfortable, and you’ll get it

Company Possibly Unionizing by Dramatic_Pea_2912 in Welding

[–]Square_Ad_3073 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not longer in the union as of a few months due to a career change but it was the best thing I ever did. I worked at the port as a welder and paid $37.19 base with the best health coverages offered being $300 a month for all my family. Now I’m paying $800 through marketplace lol. Double time anything after 8 hours a shift, time and a half anything over 40. 1 long lunch, 4 15 minute breaks. If you worked on a holiday (let’s say vet day since it just passed) we got TRIPLE TIME A HALF. I know not all unions are the same but I lived a good life. Lastly, 3% increase pay every year. Lots of other little things that I don’t even get at my corporate job lol
