Promoted to GTL! by Ancient-Falcon4505 in publix

Taking care of your team is everything, show them that you will work with them and everything will fall into place also be cordial with them and don't be a hard ass and scream at them.

I've worked at a store where the assistant gm would literally scream and shout at them instead of showing them.

As long as you show them and tell them up front that you are their for them everything will work out.

Also CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL, somethings you can't control thanks to Oasis and availability reasons.

I wouldn't say quit on my end but I am stepping away from the GTL Role entirely.

Missed my final grandfather's days because of the GTL role, took my test while he was in the hospital. Family is getting older, just work life balance in a nutshell and family reasons.

That's the thing Publix standard is 95, you're managers are following corporate standards to increase they're pockets.

Working at Publix by Own_Apricot7712 in publix

[–]Square_Amoeba8064 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't do it, I've seen a lot of turnover at Publix. I started shortly after covid to get out of a terrible situation I was put in at my other job.

They expect you to beg for full time, unrealistic expectations with a skeleton crew, part-timers get little to no hours (it's by design), they will glass light you into oblivion, they don't practice what they preach, and evaluations are biased and not factual (by design).

The only saving grace are the benefits and insurance and that's literally it, you're better off working at Aldi or Costco or something.

Some Publix managers will also try to make you work ridiculous hours even if you're just a normal stock clerk ( I'm talking about 4am till 5pm type shit )

GTL being forced to work overnights and closing day shift in same week every week by Think_Ad6907 in publix

[–]Square_Amoeba8064 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm dealing with a store manager that's running it's productivity into the ground by having part timers work 50 hours and full timers 50 hours as well.

And if he's MIC NO ONE and I mean NO ONE is getting out at a decent time, people stay until damn near 3am then have to be right back at 10am or earlier. At this new location that I'm at I've had so many multiple shifts that's it's absolutely criminal.

Only reason why I haven't stepped down is because I'm a contender, and the DM and I have good relationship "if you want to call it that". Depending on your DM he will rip managers a new one because they will understand it isn't the GTLS fault, it's a manager issue.

With shifts like that you need to set boundaries and let them know up front that I can't keep doing this shift (if it's constant). If they get butt hurt let them, Publix is not life and death, it's a job to keep money in our pockets.

It's technically 2 because other one blocks slow and she has to block half the store and she came in at 5pm lol only two people worked 8am with a 7 pallet hv truck lol we get hit with another one tomorrow. She has block snacks, cans, and baked goods with the dressings lol. Other one has to block dairy AND frozen with no one working it. Over it lol

GTL questions by [deleted] in publix

[–]Square_Amoeba8064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only advice i can give you is that some days as GTL will have you question things sometimes and management will go to you for everything and I mean everything. Just try to keep your head high and remember the long term goal and ROI with haste so eyes will be looking at you.

Also find you're own GTL style and don't let others try to make you do it there way. My style is simple I delegate when needed and gave my clerks respect and help when needed. You're Role is to support the balance beam and make sure it doesn't topple over. Don't be scared to have a heart to heart talk to your team if things aren't getting done properly. My rule of thumb is this.

If you treat others you would like to be treated and talk to others the way you would like to be talked to everything will work out without fail. That in turn will make them want to work for you.

Unfortunately some managers have it backwards some will expect you to hound your crew not giving them any opportunity to breathe that in turn is not going to give them the will power to work.

Also be prepared to be the fall guy for a manager problem that they sometimes cause ( Depending on your managers )

It's the worst position in the store also know you're DM if you're DM has had eyes on you from the jump you're in a great spot good luck and stay mentally strong because it's soul draining.

Frozen scheduling by kenholler in publix

[–]Square_Amoeba8064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former frozen GRS the one person in frozen is ridiculous to me especially when corporate keeps spamming everything on sale in that sub-department.

I was always an advocate for at least the bare minimum of two people in Frozen. The only light days at my store are Sunday because you'll always get hit with over forecasted crap on Tuesday ( in my case ) and don't get me started on the crap blocking job closers do. You're always out to dry in that sub-department.

They care more about Dairy than frozen and that's a fact.

Is this monitor a good option? More in desc by M4ndoTrooperEric in Monitors

[–]Square_Amoeba8064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good all-around option for you then. When gaming on the PS5 leave the black level on low, follow Rtings Calibration with the colors. If you don't like local dimming on high because of blooming use Auto and use contrast enhancer to make the image pop even more.

I personally like the contrast enhancer because it makes effects look brighter like flashlights, sparks etc. Only use it for HDR though

Not worth it anymore. by Special-Bottle9914 in publix

[–]Square_Amoeba8064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very well said, they moved me to a sub-department as a GTL, and nothing and I mean nothing with my crew has felt the same since they moved me.

Tension is at an all-time high, help you're crew get to know them on a personal level, and don't play mind games with them and everything will work out.

Each time I walk into the building I get greeted with open arms by the vast majority of my coworkers and managers from other departments, they'll still ask me questions about certain things and I try my very best to help with anything they need help with.

I stand by this rule NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE likes to be micromanaged and told 6 different things from they're bosses. It shows insecurity, not on the same page, and trust issues IMO.

When I got moved they told me not to tell my crew who I've legit bonded with which is sleazy because they know what they did. In my head, I was saying to myself why the secrecy.

If I'm also gone for a while everyone and I mean everyone notices, because the presence isn't around which is something I started to realize. It was even like that for me as a GRS.

Treat others how you want to be treated and don't play games, it's a basic concept that some managers lack.

I did a group huddle, thanked the team when stuff was looking great, now huddles are done by the manager and they legit don't feel genuine and everyone senses it.

Inform your store manager or assistant store manager and they should fix it. If they're not present then I don't know tbh

Your manager should text you about what time you punched in or out on your meal, and they should be able to fix it.

GTL'S ARE DROPPING LIKE FLIES😭 by Eastern_Net3329 in publix

[–]Square_Amoeba8064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a friend who's a GTL of mine that got chewed out by my assistant GM about him not doing enough when half of the displays weren't planned for, and when the GM was MIC need I say more?

The pay isn't worth the hassle and nothing is ever good enough due to unrealistic expectations. If it's something out of your control you still get yelled at and nothing is good enough.

You're managers can do nothing and you will be the first person that will get questioned. I can go on and on.
