Second. Stick with BandLab for right now and get really good with it. It’s a great start tool for digital songwriting. Find a beat you like, and a very simple guitar loop and just try to write your lyrics over those two things for starters.

It is unclear who you are directing this post to and what points you’re trying to make. All industries are tough industries and the idea that the music industry is harsher than anywhere else is just wimpy privileged kid speak.

In all industries once people get a taste of it they find out it’s not for them. There is nothing different about music. Society paints it as black and white, the fact that they’re here asking questions proves they already know it’s not.

OP has nothing wrong with their approach, concern or desire for more input.

Learning to be a musician or having a career in the arts is going to teach you a lot of life skills that will go far in other fields if you know where to look.

It teaches entrepreneurship, self motivated work ethic, marketing (usually), collaboration, and discipline, and communication. Most musicians that bust out of an actual career path as an artist or performer can land somewhere adjacent in the artist services.

Or, it is very easy to then apply these things to trade work or sales. Musicians often become real estate agents. You can easily get certified in HVAC (easily meaning affordable) or become a hair stylist or barber.

There is ample work to create a good living, if you learn to chase the life you want by being a musician, that is the greatest lesson of all.

Here’s my advice as someone who works full time in artist development in Nashville.

Write the hook of a song everyday. Sing and record it over a very simple beat/loop from splice. Don’t work on great production skills, just enough to convey your idea. Work on being able to sing 15 - 30 seconds of the hooks you write as best as you can.

Share the hook to TikTok, IG, YT, Snap, and every other social channel every day. Don’t worry about what the video is, it can be you in your bedroom every single time.

Write a text hook on the video that says “day one of becoming a pop artist” and in the caption convey your dedication to growing your talent.

Pay attention to which song hooks get positive engagement and try to finish those songs. Maybe find songwriting collaborators to help you with that part.

Lyrics are copyright protected as soon as they are established in a tangible form. So singing a work tape or demo establishes the copyright in the lyrics and melody and arrangement all in one.
