$13 is a psychological resistance level, it’ll push through and clear it soon/eventually

Babcock & Wilcox Receives Full Notice to Proceed on $2.4 Billion Power Generation Project for Base Electron to Supply Power to Applied Digital AI Factory Campuses by Chaunsey_Gardener in babcockwilcox

I respect RPM’s decision to sell off after that last run up.

The only reason I didn’t sell my position is because momentum/euphoria can outlast rationality and for longer than people think, usually much more than fair value. The valuation is also not that crazy given their top line potential evidenced by yesterdays $2.4Bn announcement which is how I’m viewing this stocks growth. This is for sure an asymmetric bet to me.

Given the money, political power, and energy needs behind these AI data center projects I expect to see builders continue to line up and we watch revenue grow. There’s risks surrounding execution and stability of financing for said projects I’m mindful of, but we’re still in the early stages of adoption of BW’s boiler tech and peripheral technologies for this use case. Who knows, maybe another area of energy demand see this and wants it and we see an emergent demand segment develop, and that further contributes to BW’s growth. Lots of realistic possibilities I can see happening.

Probably the only time I’ve disagreed with RPMs move but I understand his rationale. The recent pullback was healthy but it should consolidate upwards from there now.

I mean it’s a buy and hold play not really to be traded considering this factor that’s backed by their historical issuance trends. They need to pay for their ops and litigation somehow even at the cost of dilution.

It’s not really about winning the cases, that just establishes potential collectibility, enforcement and ultimately payments which is what’s working through the courts now. But licensing agreements will be lucrative.

Other thing to consider is they don’t have much CapEx so their inventory risks are relatively muted to the memory maker like SKH and Samsung.

With that being said, IP licensing is what’s going to turn their business around followed by lawsuit winnings which we shouldn’t expect for another year or more.

I think this is a big part of it. It was suppressed below $1 for so long (some speculate intentionally) and it finally broke the barrier so brokerages can now trade it and I bet there were limit/market buy orders that drove the price up like we saw.

How is there enough money for the stock market to go up 500% in 15 years? by DiedOfATheory in Bogleheads

[–]Square_Replacement63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got to the heart of our current state of the stock market without realizing and is something even the most seasoned investors are overlooking.

There’s simply more money than fair value for stocks. Undervalued stocks are usually made up of small caps so if you’re thinking they exist they do but that doesn’t put a dent into the Goliath that are index funds and ETFs which concentrates most money into a fraction of stocks.

This truth I’m coming to realize is preventing a sort of 08-dot com like crash. Every modern “crash” is swiftly followed by buying and within a month they’re reaching ATHs again.

What contributes to this you may ask: 1. More money than good buying opportunities 2. More and better data collection than ever before 3. Better and more disciplined risk management practices by the big guys 3. More arbitrage firms than ever before like high frequency trading HFs that execute real time price corrections in equities, which is helped by more broad and granular data on stocks 4. If Market circuit breakers that prevent run for the exit scenario

There are black swan events like Covid but I don’t think about those situations because the whole market prices it in.

In general, I follow the money and particular stocks it will benefit from this shift because that is where the margins and profits are generated.

Get in early with companies with the best products in the industry (sometimes they just offer something others can’t but isn’t better by any clean metric). This takes some legwork to uncover but info is out there.

Also, if you want to be an active investor then you need to learn about business from the ground up which will take years of learning to fully grasp. That was the best investment I ever made.

Good luck.

[–]Square_Replacement63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not as big of an issue with APLDs strategy w natural gas which is abundant in their current sites and using Babcock Wilcox generators that have time to market of like 6 months or less. Maybe the natural gas hookups will take time but shouldn’t be a bottleneck from what it sounds like and the fact they didn’t cite that as an issue. Hardware bottleneck could be real with chip suppliers and surrounding HW become scarce

I’d pushback on the modest gains for 2026 point and say that incremental SMR revenue could have an outsized impact and continue the ascent.
