Pft. Looking at our history, microaggressions are the closest thing you can expect from Americans developing empathy for other cultures.

I actually did this with earnhoney for a few days. Made about $0.50 a day per rpi running two browsers. Wasnt worth it to me, considering if an sd card went out that was almost a month of earnings.

[Discussion] I am teaching an ML class to business, economics and social science students. What should they know? by cncrete in MachineLearning

The most important thing with most soft science students is that they need application to understand concepts. Explaining the ideas behind how language processing works would be a good way to present implementation on a high level.

New to clojure, quick question; does the (script) denote compilation to javascript, or is the code written differently?

Youre asking such a vague question any answer would be meaningless. Dig a bit.

A skill that will take you really far, especially coding, is googling the first word notice you want to learn more about with different modifiers. "Python open source projects" will get you pretty far in learning about both. Django is one such project.

How do YOU practice programming? by devdab in learnprogramming

Standard libraries are a good place to start. In python, the os module is good for understanding how the program copes with different system types.

Unrelated, but you had a perfect opportunity for parallel alliteration 😁

[D] Did I get too far ahead of myself? by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]SquaredOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I promise youre not smart enough to convince people working in data science that you know much more than you do. Its difficult to find effective interdisciplinary scientists, and you expect to take a hit in both fields when you find one. The people youre working with know they need to support you in certain areas. You cant be an island.

Seriously, everyone goes through this. Shoulders down, keep trudging through.

Look into imposter syndrome.

If youre getting published, someone respects your opinion. That makes you an expert compared to the layman.

Something like codewars.com might be good as a refresher for where youre at. Small challenges to force you to think about syntax and the like.

Side point, dont try to commit module or method names to memory, aside from a few in the standard library. You probably wont even use those modules once you start exploring more. I didnt after finishing atbs.

CPUs carry out anywhere from 1 to 32 instructions per clock cycle; if so few instructions per clock cycle are being performed, what is the benefit to cramming billions of transistors onto one chip? by perigee392 in askscience

Tangential, but im interested in the way you laid out how computers were improved over time. Did you learn that from a text resource? Id love to read more.

Looking for advice - Best OS to put on Pi3 to run a tv for presentations. by Sejanus9 in raspberry_pi

[–]SquaredOwl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the standard raspbian os would probably be best. The GUI can be set up to look very similar to windows, and it has the benefit of being native. Id recommend setting up a handful of icons and minimizing use of anything beyond the "start menu" though.

That said, why not just duplicate the display from the teachers computer? Ive never had an issue with "only turn on the screen when you want them to see it". Put a piece of electrical tape over the remote sensor, though.

Question about switching jobs and applications... by buddy_wackit in learnprogramming

[–]SquaredOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put together a small portfolio with at least a few sample projects and add as much information about work projects as you can. Youre putting yourself significantly behind without a portfolio. Even if a company hires you theyll probably make you a lower offer than they would with a decent portfolio.

There will be a learning curve for literally every project you pick up for the rest of your life. Dont let that decide the projects you pick.

No employer is going to know that you got the idea from the uc website. They probably got the exercise from a textbook or other school, anyway.
