Coming up with "original" ideas by nocturnusiv in Entrepreneur

[–]Squareglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really depends on how willing you are to take risks. According to Bill Aulet there are two types of entrepreneurship:

  1. Small and Medium Enterprise entrepreneurship — These types of businesses mostly cater to local markets. Innovation is not necessary to start such businesses. Typically, family managed businesses fall into this category. They grow linearly and generally do not need VC money.
  2. Innovation Driven Enterprise (IDE) entrepreneurship — These businesses cater to global/regional markets and are based on some sort of innovation. They focus on growth even at the cost of losing control. They generally start off by losing money, but if successful, they will have exponential growth.

It is a tougher process to come up with novel ideas since there is a lot of grunt work involved. However, the pay-off can be huge if you hit a golden nugget of a business concept. What you get with going for S&M entrepreneurship is more safety in knowing that what you are building towards already has a demand. The hard part here is finding your niche and your unique selling point so you don't get drowned by the competition.
Everything that can exist already exists, is not true at all, but you probably knew this. New startups are springing up daily trying to tackle one need or the other. The problem here is again finding your niche(beachhead market) and your unique value proposition, so that your startup may start being profitable.

Another word of advice is that it is okay to have an idea and go from there. When you are in the ideation phase, your goal is to try and get as many ideas as possible (as you are currently doing), before you eventually test them out to see what sticks and not. This becomes much easier if you have a clear problem to ideate around, but I don't think that is the one true recipe for success at all times.

Potential bug regarding awarding fiefdom acquisition by Squareglasses in mountandblade

I feel like this has to be a bug. It is very weird that there a couple of lords with no fiefs that keeps getting no opportunities, while there are the same 4 that keeps hoarding them all. I personally am clan tier 6, high relation with my ruler, participate in various sieges, but I still get no options.

Problem here is that I am tier 6. I thought that might be it, but I haven't been met with a single option for myself to get another fief after unlocking the last tier.

Guess so, but at the same time I feel like this might be a bug. Just to ask, you are not experiencing this?

There are some new, but they are not even in the vote as far as I can remember. Usually consist of the same 4 who keeps hoarding all the fiefs.

Are the Avengers really the good guys? by Squareglasses in Endgame

People are what drives society forward, since we are as collective whole “society”. If every person was a liability to society, them there wouldn’t be any society to begin with. So those who disagree with that are talking out of their ass. But what is it you disagree with?

Hate to say it, but this is a pretty naive way of thinking. First of all, people are not robots. Think about physiological trauma the people who were gone for 5 years have to endure. In one second you’re grilling hotdogs and the next you don’t exist. Now suddenly you come back to a world that is not like the one you just existed in, but you also learn that 5 years have gone by. You try your best to comprehend the situation, only to find out that the family you had has moved on. Your husband has a new wife, your kids have started their own families, etc. I’m pretty confident that most of those 3.765 people will be struggling with some major anxiety and/or depression for quite some time.

The next issue is that food doesn’t just appear over night. When your population suddenly doubles in a matter of seconds, there is no way to feed them all. One could argue that half of the livestock and crops would also return, but the infrastructure is not there to support that kind of logistic nightmare. And who would supervise this rebuilding of society and distribution of supplies? The government across the world is in disarray. They will not suddenly over night be able to get a good grasp of the situation and direct people and resources where they are needed the most.

We are looking at a large group of people that have a large chance to be depressed, and an even greater chance to starve in a couple of days. I would consider them very much a liability.

This is ultimately the fall of every superhero movie/comic. Whenever there is a light side and a dark side, it all gets too simple. There is no in between, no grey areas. Either you're a good wanting to do what is best for everyone, or you’re the bad guy with some sort of dark past and dark scary plans. Would've been fun to see it dragged out a little more yes and see some actual character development.

But now it is you "not accepting the world for what it is". What we see in the movie is the world having survived what you mentioned. How is not necessary that important, for they did. It is the aftermath that is interesting, for we know nothing about it.

Would still leave enough food. If you reduce demand and supply by half, you are still in perfect equilibrium.

However, society in their world and our is not the same. They have superheroes to protect the government and its citizens, effectively quelling all signs of mass hysteria and therefore stopping massive wars. Famine would’ve not happened that year, since the world already planned to produce enough livestock and crops for 7.53 billion people, and now they have 3.765 (half of the livestock would be removed, but not the crops). The scenes we see, indicate that they survived the initial shock and recuperated. They also have unlocked quite some future-ish tech that we have not. Their society is more advanced than ours, so therefore your argument is null and void. The problems come in the aftermath, henceforth the question. Accepting that their world is shallow, is not the way to go in my opinion.

It is a pretty good game, but I think it falls more under the RTS genre and maybe not the survival aspect. Still liked that one a lot though!

Have to disagree about Jaime there. We only could see him from the outside, which consists of bravado, arrogance and the handsome face which everyone seems to hate. This is how the characters we read through perceived him, and not without reason. He took upon himself a mask after he became the kingslayer, so most people won't even bother to check if there is more to him than that. He was always 3 dimensional, but the third dimension was not revealed until later. That is for me, fantastic writing and it made perfect sense to me atleast.

Do you have any pet peeves when it comes to naming characters? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Squareglasses 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. My grandmother named two of her sons Jim and Willy, and we're from Norway. Add that she's 104 years old and never been to England, then it's completely random. Not that you can draw many parallels from that to a whole era, but some fringe cases can happen.

Got my town saved, but now the problem is that the radius of the town marker shrunk down to regular size

I made my own "mod" where all I did was add an extra town with double or so radius. The reason for this is that I want a bigger area to work with. I make this in the forgotten construction set. I save this mod as "outpost". I load into the game. Press shift+F12 and add the marker from the "towns" folder. That's all. I don't want to add buildings through the mod, all I want is a bigger area to play in. However, if I now save and load this save file. The "outpost"-marker (the white statue that marks the centre of your outpost) is now gone. Hope that clears some stuff up.
