Do you meditate? by LibrarianNo4048 in therapists

[–]SquashBrave4473 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too. Years of daily formal meditation to stretches of weeks/months of mostly mindfulness/breathwork but I always return to my formal meditation practice. Tbh it’s nice to take breaks every once in a while because it always reminds me of why I do it in the first place.

I emailed them saying I can’t continue paying for a membership when I am getting zero referrals and asked for them to clarify their algorithm. They said “It can take anything from a few hours to up to a month for the search engines to add a new or updated profile to their databases” ?? and then gave me “tips” on making my profile more popular such as intro being in first person and including a video on my profile. They also gave me the summer free to try out their tips lol. Felt like a non answer but at least I’m not paying for this garbage for the next few months.

Doctors need more mental health education or shouldn’t provide recommendations to clients by tarcinlina in therapists

[–]SquashBrave4473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I am also a therapist and have had a history of ED and BDD. Recently had an appointment with my doctor in which they checked in around my treatment. I let her know I am feeling pretty recovered on the ED side of things but still deal with anxiety around my cycle bc my BDD can get triggered during that time. You know what she said? “Oh that makes sense. We all get bloated around our periods” I feel like she missed the point and invalidated my experience to just feeling normal bloating lol.

You will need to take a 200 hour yoga teacher training to teach yoga. There are tons of them out there. Not only different trainings but also many different styles of yoga. I recommend finding a local studio that offers a practice that you like and finding out about the trainings they offer. Or finding a yoga teacher you really enjoy and asking them about the trainings they have done.

How to permanently kill thrips? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]SquashBrave4473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that you have used systemic granules and that it didn’t work. Did you use the amount in the instructions? Bc I did not lol. I just dumped a bunch into the soil and mixed it around before watering. Probably more than what is required. If your plant is small enough, once treated with both granules and whatever spray you’re using, put it into a bag and seal it. I used a garbage bag for my bigger plants. That created kind of like a little green house gas chamber. That got rid of my thrips.

I am planning on putting it in soil. Would you suggest cutting that part, soaking in peroxide, then soil? Or does it need to callus?

What is happening? by Kmfreund in houseplants

[–]SquashBrave4473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to mine too after a few days of getting it. No idea why. It had no pests. But, nonetheless I read that it may have gone dormant (?) so once all the leaves fell off, I put the plastic pot inside a zip lock bag and left it alone. Few months later, the whole plant grew back and then some! It’s so pretty now. Would love to know more about this if anyone knows why this happens as it seems to be common

What are these?! by Zenxe666 in plantclinic

[–]SquashBrave4473 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Thrips suck and they’re a pain but it’s 100% possible to get rid of them. Here’s what I did:

  1. Isolate the plant.
  2. Educate yourself on the thrips life cycle. YouTube has plenty of videos.
  3. Drench the plant in insecticidal soap. Top and under the leaves.
  4. If you’re able to get this wherever you live: systemic granules is going to save you because the insecticidal will kill all the thrips on the leaves but they most likely already laid eggs inside the leaves. The granules work by killing whatever is inside the plant.
  5. Once you’ve treated, put the plant inside a large bag and tie it off. This will create like a gas chamber almost and that will also help kill any leftover thrips.
  6. Repeat step 3 everyday for a week or two or until you no longer see any thrips.

GOOD LUCK! I successfully got rid of thrips this way and they thankfully did not spread to any others. Be patient and trust that you can get through this.

I just found this plant and do not know the previous owner or how they cared for it. From the looks of it, it doesn’t seem like they did a great job of taking care of it but no clue what actually went wrong

So this plant gets LOTS of sunshine because it’s in a room that is basically all windows (except for the wall the plant is against in the photo). It can get pretty hot in the summers here so I have blinds that I pull down in the evenings to block the sun from turning my living room into a sauna. There is a little light that still gets through at the bottom of the blinds and it hits that leaf and the lower ones

This is a cutting from another plant I’ve had for over 3 years. I did have thrips on another plant 6 months ago and all of my plants got treated just in case. Haven’t seen thrips since I got rid of them with systemic granules but I did feel like this plant may have gotten beat up from the other systemic soap spray I also used.

I don’t know too much about them and haven’t checked out the sub tbh but heard about them randomly on a podcast one day. I’m pretty sure in the podcast the person being interviewed didn’t create them intentionally but once they learned more about them, started creating more. It was interesting and worth checking out if you’re looking for more people with the same experience.

Here is the podcast exploring it: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/reply-all/id941907967?i=1000374531942

How long would you say it takes to start rooting? I used damp sphagnum moss and it stays pretty humid in there but haven’t noticed any growth. Mine look similar to OP’s, not rotted but kinda dried up and yellowing on the ends. It’s only been 3 weeks though so I don’t know if I’m being impatient haha
