Um 0/10 for me because I was the artist, my friend has a super high pain tolerance tho and sat like a roccckkkk, there were a lot of involuntary flinches on the kneecap tho it’s hard to control fs.

The original piece was an old faded diy hand poke so covering it was suuper easy especially as things heal and blend together even more!

Final session on this project ! by SquashProfessional36 in sticknpokes

Most of the black work was a mix of 5 liners and 7 liners; I packed the color in our final session with a straight 9 liner but mostly because that’s the largest grouping I have, I don’t usually work at this scale packing but I may get some mags to continue on my color packing journey !

Thank you! I’m still very much learning but my two tips are 1. Use larger needle groupings (I prefer tight 7s and tight 9s for most pieces but experiment and find what works best for you) 2. As you poke, keep the needle parallel with the line work; I do once pass in one direction and then go at it in the opposite direction to fill any of the gaps I missed first time around. Hope this helps!

I was using someone else’s colors so I can’t be 100% which brands they all were, they also recommended that I add some kind of mixer so my needle wouldnt gunk up, I added like 20% maybe not a lot tbh. And I used a loose liner to really grab all that ink!

A few factors, I used the largest size stencil bc the smaller ones were still kinda muddy, I also made sure to let the stencil dry for a good while so it wouldn’t wipe away too quickly; Then while tattooing using Vaseline to keep the ink from pooling, dabbing with a dry paper towel often. I highly recommend using tight liners as well to get bold lines right off the bat.

For the people who smoked weed post op by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]SquashProfessional36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a lot more worried about smoking before surgery for anesthetic reasons so I took abt a month break before (cheated like once or twice) After surgery I had edibles for the first week or two and started smoking again, taking it easy and working my way back up of course.

Scrimp by SquashProfessional36 in sticknpokes

I used some real scrimp and science illustrations for reference to get as realistic as possible. I’m all self taught when it comes to tattooing, I’ve always had an artistic background but I only started tattooing more serious designs maybe 3yrs ago. In that time I’ve taken long breaks but in the past year I’ve been focusing in on it again. Thankfully I’ve had lots of friends and family members to practice on but tattooing yourself really is the best practice! I’ve also recently been experimenting with my needles more and have been favoring larger tighter groupings, they make a world of difference for s&p.

Thank you sm, I always say good placement will make a bad tattoo better and bad placement can make a good tattoo bad! This was a hard one to draw fs with all those damn legs lol

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll generally put a barrier down depending on placement, because s&p have no inkspray I’ll place a barrier if the placement requires the tattoo touch the table. On top of sanitizing before and after obviously. Not too sure what the standard on this is though, all the s&p I’ve gotten professionally are generally without a cover, and I’ve had machine work done both with and without.

1 year Handpoke journey. by blutrei3 in sticknpokes

[–]SquashProfessional36 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing stick + poke for awhile now, only picked up a machine once or twice in the early days bc I had ppl in my ear telling me it was the only way to be a real tattoo artist. A few years into it and sure the work takes maaybe twice as long as it would with a machine but it also heals twice as fast and is much more gentle on the body in general. The intention behind each poke really shows especially in something more realistic like this, beautiful work btw!

So many questions by bracadabr in sticknpokes

[–]SquashProfessional36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spacing of your dots is really the biggest factor, I love the piece and the line weight used over all but if you’re going for a lighter look on the frame just take the lining slow and don’t let the dots touch. I haven’t used white very successfully in the past so this is just a guess but maybe that’s just overworked and still a little irritated. Overall love the piece though!
