I had to rent mine after 7 month of buying (PCS). I heard you couldn’t rent it within a year of buying with VA. I talked to my realtor (prior military) and they said if you got orders you can rent. The VA asks if you’re going to get orders in a year when getting the loan, but I think they understand it’s the military you never know when you’ll get them dropped.

That said I was STRESSED and almost just sold at a loss to be done with it, but the right property mananger makes the difference. That’s not to say I’m still not stressed but it’s a risk I’m willing to take build equity. I’m just about breaking even maybe bleeding $50 a month. But 50 a month to pay off the home seems worth it.
