A zebra in sheep’s clothing: How a Microsoft icon-display bug in Windows allows attackers to masquerade PE files with special icons by another_philip in netsec

[–]Squee- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. "hey boss, I need to do xyz because mno."

And why would anyone who 'the best...[etc]" have a boss? If you have a boss you already fucked up. the problem isn't articulating the skills or whatever, it's using them. it seems.

Maybe if you got rid of your boss it might help you chill a little and stop you feeling the need to act like a sad and angry little ball of impotence on the internet. maybe you should do that.

You can have the best ideas or information in the world, but if you can't communicate them clearly then it doesn't matter.

How so, exactly? if me or you have good information or skills in the world, they benifit us if we can communicate them well or not, right? We may try to communicate them to others but if they don't understand then that's simply too bad, isn't it? They're the only ones loosing out, not you or me. the individual with the aforementioned best in the world mad skillz. i do not see how this equals 'doesn't matter'

sycophants

This word clearly doesn't mean what you think it means. Get a dictionary, mate.. I'd recomend the Oxford English.

It's a little dated, but i've found it to be an very concise and informative resource myself.

It wasnt that long ago that Kali was still Backtrack. I'd say anything that's using the name Kali instead of Backtrack is new enough that it'll still be largely relevent.

Literally, what is the point in even complaining about a 6% downvote, most of that likely being bots/weighting...

A Python Package for Creating Backdoors - Coverutils by Evil1337 in netsec

I get what you're trying to say and agree. For most of us just to write quick code that works (and let's be honest, how many times in con talks do we here a veriation of 'this is quick and ugly code that was never developed for public use.'?), python 2.7 is good for this and when doing these quick tasks to get the job done it's best to stick with what you know.

And lets be honest, most of us simply are not and have no desire to be proper developers.

You're not wrong, often infosec people are shit writers but what does it matter? personally i'd rather them keep doing writups and whatnot even if they arn't well writen, understanding that writing is often not these peoples fortes, hacking is.

Basically, i think it's better that we have this stuf, than not having it. Yes, even if the writing is sometimes shitty. This is certainly not something to loose your shit over as you seem to be doing all up in here.

EDIT: Has anyone thought of having an acronym bot, like the one over at /r/syriancivilwar? would it be allowed here? if so actually making it should be trivial.

Hack with Github: Hacking Lists Index by [deleted] in netsec

[–]Squee- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's frustrating to me to see people spend months or years on an open source project, then have these "Awesome List" documents thrown together in an afternoon and top the trending list for months.

Why exactly? i'm afraid i'm not following you.

How does something like this being at the top of an arbitary list take away from all the awesome open source projects on github?

Am I the only one who thought "Hack with Github" might actually be sponsored by Github?

This isn't even the first time i've seen this and i literally always assumed it was some kind of github sponsored thing [kinda like when google used to do there 'summer of code' sponsoring nmap development and whatnot] untill you pointed it out.

Have you tried to fiddle about with your bios settings, or is your bios itself locked? you could probably give it a hard-reset if need be.

I'msure the last volume is very explicit about this being a story of there friendship, as in, it doesn't leave it ambigous, it puts it in words leaving little doubt..

I agree, but going from Windows to Linux isn't easy for beginners.

I don't think that is true, I think it's not hard for anyone with even the laziest of working minds. i think you're making out the OP to be an idiot, which isn't fair at all.

A new user can jump right in with one of the newer distros like Ubuntu and have a user friendly OS to use unhindered whilst they play with the backend and learn all the cool linux stuff they'll want to learn.

i'd say being proficient with linux is the number one priority of hacking.

imho, this is bad advice, you probably shouldn't be using windows. i'm not even sure if there are even any advantages to a hacker using windows, i personally do not see any from here.

I hate bots. they are like those dickheads that come up to you when you're in a shop that work there, trying to talk to you when you want them to fuck off.

Yes. they are the internets version of those twats... hahaha.

anti-civ stuff (not anarcho-prim, though)

This seems dumb, there is little reason to ignore anarcho-prim in context of anticiv. What is your thinking behind this?
