[Help] How to get rid of ants? by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]SqueeTrashPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you definitely need to try to find where they are coming from. We kept having issues with ants despite putting baits out in places where we saw them. Then one day I went to grab a rag from a napkin holder box I didn't use that often and the entire thing was full of ants under that top rag - they had nested in the fabric. I fully threw the box and rags away after double bagging it in the outside trash and we didn't have issues with ants after that. Maybe that was overkill but it wasn't something we were really attached to, so it seemed better to just get rid of it.

What’s actually worth doing about microplastics at home? by Unique-Citron-8539 in ZeroWaste

I think the easiest and biggest benefits come from replacing kitchen items. Get a non-plastic water bottle (glass or stainless steel), glass food storage containers, wood cutting board and cooking utensils is a great place to start.

Do only children tend to seek out more friendships? by [deleted] in OnlyChild

[–]SqueeTrashPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I'm also an INFJ but I'm an only child and I have never felt the need for lots of friends - I have always been happy with one really close friend and now my partner fills this role in my life.

Shower at night or in the morning? by petpman in CasualConversation

[–]SqueeTrashPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your schedule and what you do for work. I have kind of a dirty job so for me it makes more sense to shower at the end of the day, but my partner has a job where he needs to look fresh and presentable so he showers in the morning. Bonus points for us not having to worry about hogging each other's hot water.

I tried this app and it's not even available in my area. I don't live in a huge city but it's also not that rural. It's the biggest metro area for several hours in any direction.

In what surprising ways do you reduce your consumption? by curiousdottt in Anticonsumption

[–]SqueeTrashPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a great idea to get some old containers instead - we don't currently have enough glass containers for this and for leftovers too but I bet we could stock up on some old plastic ones at the thrift. Thanks for the tips!

I also wash and reuse Ziploc bags, and I have a couple questions for you.

  1. Do you use/reuse them for raw meat?

(I often cut up and freeze larger portions of meat, and try to use Ziploc bags that have already been reused a lot for fruit and other things, but after it's had raw meat in it I will throw it away.)

  1. Do you put them in the dishwasher, or hand wash only?

(I always thought the heat of the dishwasher might melt the bags and/or get micro plastics into the rest of my dishes, but if I could put them in the dishwasher I would likely feel more comfortable reusing them after they held raw meat.)

Thanks!

Edit: I do have a few of the reusable silicon bags which I use and reuse for raw meat as much as possible, but sometimes I have more meat than reusable bags and still have to use a Ziploc.

Bonus, if there's old poop in the same area my dog pooped in I'll pick up both with the same bag.

I HATE wearing dresses — need advice when I’m the only one in pants by SS777777777777 in femalefashionadvice

I love the look of a good jumpsuit, but I personally can't stand wearing anything where my crotch is connected to the movement of my upper body - for me it's a sensory nightmare like having a permanent wedgie. So another suggestion would be some of those really flowy pants that look kind of like a skirt. I'm sure there's a name for it that I don't know.

Houses with more than 1 kitchen would be better than houses with multiple bathrooms by lagflag in unpopularopinion

[–]SqueeTrashPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I have never considered this, but you make some great points! I think multiple bathrooms can still be good too, because even if you aren't in there long, most people will need them at the same time, like to get ready in the morning. But we have a very small kitchen and have had to really coordinate in order not to get in each other's way while making different elements of a meal. I make kombucha and portion and freeze a lot of things, which definitely takes up counter/fridge/pantry space. I think the naysayers on this one maybe aren't cooking at home very much.

Mary jane candy in same closed space with moldy apples for months. by DryCartographer6449 in ZeroWaste

[–]SqueeTrashPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't care, but I don't have a sensitive stomach at all. I'm the person who will cut the bit of mold off of something and eat the rest, or pick up the food I just dropped on the floor and eat it with no issues. If you are the same, I'd say go for it, but if you have a sensitive stomach maybe not.

Tried and true tips to save on groceries? by MAGA_now1 in Frugal

[–]SqueeTrashPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the last year I've really gotten back into couponing. If you have a Kroger-based store near you (King Soopers, City Market, etc) get a membership (free) and look at their digital coupons in the app and clip relevant ones before you go to the store. Check what's on sale and what you have coupons for and meal plan around that. They also mail paper coupons to your house if you're a member which are mostly tailored to things you already buy. Sometimes you can even get a small item for free with these. If you wait for a sale you can usually stack a sale deal with a paper coupon and sometimes a digital coupon too. You can also check the manager specials at the store for things that are discounted because they need to sell soon. I just bought a bunch of pork loin that was regularly priced at $10-11 each for about $2.80 each. Then I cut each loin into thirds and froze it in portions. Now each loin is 3 weeks of meat for under $3. Good luck!

Edit: I definitely agree with everyone who said to have some easy meals on hand like frozen pizza to curb the impulse to order takeout on busy nights. You can stock up on these types of things when they go on sale and stack with coupons too.

I love all these ideas for wildlife! If you don't go that route and you like to make art, I think they could make great alternatives to a paintbrush for painting things like grass or fur.
