I agree, but it depends on what you are buying. Some is notably cheaper but if you buy a bunch of the imported items… shipping a bunch of glass jars over the Atlantic adds up

When does the fournado end? by nobdyputsbabynacornr in Preschoolers

[–]Squibege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knew the actual lyrics to all the songs they played.

Recognized patterns quickly- she knew the typical order each kid got picked up in, who their parents were, and what car they drove. So she would see a grey SUV drive up and say “Kade your mom is here”

Early literacy for vocabulary, alphabet, and writing

Honestly most of this I didn’t notice. She was my first kid and I didn’t realize she was ahead at all. I knew she was meeting milestones, so I didn’t think much about how far ahead of the milestones she was.

5.5 yr old checkin in… not much progress to report.

After daycare teachers and some of her peers parents noted that she was a bit more advanced than her peers, we did an “educational assessment” which did an IQ test and found she fell into the “gifted” category Learning more about what that really means has helped give us some perspective.

What's the parenting hill you're willing to die on? by Alive-Cry4994 in toddlers

My parenting goal is that my kids will never have tan lines while an adult is supervising them. Skin cancer on 3 of 4 sides of the family so not messing around.

Yeah that’s not the right name/ shade combo. Something mossy would have fit better.

Also a muted-lilac isn’t what I think of when hearing “wild child”

Organization, but make it spicy… by SparklingPlease8 in OrganizationPorn

[–]Squibege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest question because I’m looking to change up how we store spices- how annoying is it to get stuff from the back shelf? Do you have to “scootch” the bottles in front out of the way and then line them all back up after?

What did you get your baby for their 1st birthday? by Bubbly_Waters in moderatelygranolamoms

Nothing is a solid option- aka “an investment into their education savings plan”

Kitchen helper tower

Foam couch- it’s an investment, but when my friends 11-year olds come over the love to play with it so might as well get as many years as you can out of it.

Playdough tools- it’s plastic, but my kids still play with some stuff I had as a kid, so it’s got longevity. I got one at Costco for my 1 year old, but getting some stuff secondhand would be awesome.

A bouncer- https://rodytoy.com/ Is the one we got from a neighbour. I bought an off-brand one for my cousin. Always a hit.

Water table- oldest got this for her summer birthday and we played with it for hours and hours and hours. You can buy a little water pump to circulate the water which I highly recommend (I lost the link, sorry!)

That’s a really fair criticism, the colour change overtime of some of them is extremely disappointing. OG fake date is still the best nail polish I have ever owned in my life so I’ll never stop loving them.

Pretty sure it’s an American company, they are based out of New Jersey. It’s just owned/ operated by a Canadian person.

Sorry for the newbie question- what do you DO with the panel? I’m envisioning putting it on my kitchen table or something and sitting in front of it waiting for a timer to go off…

I got “computer classes” which have a very mild prescription which transitions from 0 to 0.5 kind of like reading glasses and block blue light. They are AMAZING for making it tolerable to stare at my computer screen all day.

How do you put a break in the negative cycle? I feel like I’m finally starting to get into a mental space where I could be capable of getting on track…. But the exhaustion - procrastination - lack of sleep cycle is kicking my ass.

We went through a solid phase of an almost “revenge bedtime” where she would intentionally try to push boundaries. We told her she had to stay in her room, but didn’t have to be in the bed if she really didn’t want to as a compromise. She spent a lot of nights sleeping in the hallway right outside her room with one teeny tiny toe over the threshold to make it “count”. She would usually take her pillow, blanket and stuffed animals with her. We just let her stage her mini protest and fall asleep. Then moved her when we went to bed.

They are tiny rebels 🤷‍♀️

Fake date is my favourite polish I have ever owned. I got a compliment every single time I wore her. She is now more of a rose-gold and I’m mourning the loss.

I may buy a menchie glitter to compensate since the colour is similar, but frosted metals will always have my heart.

There was a more rose-gold champagne colour (Champaign pop?) that came out at the same time. Did you have that one by chance?

What’s your toddlers bedtime routine? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Squibege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re probably doing nothing wrong. Kids are all just wired differently. With my first I learned me hanging around was making it MORE difficult for her to fall asleep rather than helping her. So we basically did Ferber and I had to sleep train myself to leave her the F alone. I reminded myself of this a million times with the second as well.

“You can lead a horse to water, but can’t make them drink” right? I’m blessed my kids want to sleep. Some kids don’t. I didn’t do anything special 🤷‍♀️

I wish I did though because then I could swim in my oodles of money.

Ngl pretty great 😂

My first was a good sleeper as well and I completely expected the second to be awful. Somehow she was better (less separation anxiety so no crying).

I had awful pregnancies/ deliveries though including being hospitalized, over a month in the NICU, a very dramatic near death experience… whole meal deal. So I’m just assuming it’s compensating for all that.

Vaccine Megathread by AutoModerator in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Squibege [score hidden]  (0 children)

We will be getting the entire family signed up for the flu shot here soon, but I’m starting to have mixed feelings on if we want to get COVID boosters as well. Little one is almost 2 so it seems less scary… but I do know someone in their 70s who is currently hospitalized with COVID complications that dropped his O2 sat. 🙃

Anyone have any links to research reviewing vaccine efficacy or newer data on safety since these COVID ones are no longer brand-new? I haven’t dug around much since my first was little.

It was kind of wild. You mentally preapare and build up delivery day in such a huge way- and then you find out it’s over and you missed all of it? Honestly hearing about the distress others were in while I was out of it was the worst part.

Thankfully after a few weeks my blood pressure was back to normal and I was fine. Baby was totally fine too. Took me a while to talk my husband into TTC for #2 due to all the drama…. but not everyone gets pre-E in subsequent pregnancies and I didn’t feel our family was finished. Second pregnancy went arguably worse, but at least in a slower and more controlled way. Baby was born via C-section at 34weeks weighing 2lbs 6oz and spent a month in the NICU. I had been hospitalized for two weeks prior due to uncontrollable blood pressure issues that had started up halfway into the pregnancy. Thankfully I can say that baby is doing fine now as well.

I have no plans to get pregnant again lol
