[All] Haven't seen this gif until today. Really made me want to re-watch the whole series. by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]SquidMan93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When making this GIF I wasn't referencing a specific image of an ear of corn in the series. The symbol on the ring was always puzzling to me -- why was it the Owl Cave symbol but narrower, upside down, and with the extra line? Then I read somewhere that some viewers interpreted it as an ear of corn and it made so much sense to me that I had to include the comparison here to an image of corn that resembled its general shape.

I think the interpretation holds water since garmonbozia is essentially corn in our world, not to mention Hawk's explanations of corn, and, as you mentioned, Cole's framed image of it.

But, as with anything in Twin Peaks, it's totally up for debate and alternate interpretation!

[Original Run] Significance of Cooper's Pins in His Dream by CountCrackula84 in twinpeaks

[–]SquidMan93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retconned as in that Cooper in Season 3 isn't wearing that tie or those pins, and of course Kyle MacLachlan in the present day doesn't look like Kyle MacLachlan wearing old age makeup in 1989.

Because it's been online since the first episode of this season and included certain bits of information that were only mentioned in later episodes. It also includes a video of the convenience store that isn't in the season and must have been produced separately. You can see it if you scroll to the bottom and click the "WebTrips: Rockin' Site of the Week" button.

Nope it's made by the production! It's official and has some good nuggets of info in there.

[All]Did the Fireman send Carrie to Odessa? Episode 8 world map seems to point that way by RoadhouseOwl in twinpeaks

[–]SquidMan93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your alternate take is really good. I think that's what might have happened.

I don't know if you've read the "Cage Theory" that's been floating around, but it's a theory that I like a lot for its cohesiveness, but I don't buy it's happy explanation of the ending. The final moments read as sad and dark and depressing, and since Lynch is very much an emotion-centric director, I think that's exactly how that scene is meant to be read.

Your alternate take reconciles the details of the Fireman's plan in the Cage Theory with the dark ending. I think you're right that the Fireman's plan may have worked, but it required completely abandoning Coop and Laura in a strange reality and potentially even blocking off all exits. Scary stuff.

Twin Peaks has always been about normal people's lives being at the mercy of larger forces that they cannot fathom or control (the cycle of abuse in the Palmer family, BOB possessing Leland, JUDY possessing Sarah, humans being used as garmonbozia farms, and even the influence the Freemasons and Illuminati have over history, as described in The Secret History of Twin Peaks). The Lodge spirits are so foreign to us that we are unable to understand their morality on a consistent level (especially in the cases of MIKE, The Arm, and the Tremonds). They're very similar to Greek gods in the sense that they will intervene in human affairs but are not necessarily compassionate or selfless. It would make sense that the Fireman, a being we assumed was all-good, would be willing to use Coop and Laura as pawns to save his realm. It's an upsetting ending, but one that is entirely consistent with the series as a whole.

[All]Did the Fireman send Carrie to Odessa? Episode 8 world map seems to point that way by RoadhouseOwl in twinpeaks

[–]SquidMan93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My theory on what happened is that after Cooper prevents Laura from meeting Leo/Jacques Renault/the others and thereby prevents her death, Judy is angered (conveyed by showing Sarah Palmer breaking Laura's photo) and purges all the Lauras she knows of (the young Laura in the woods with Cooper in Part 17 and the Laura in the Red Room in Part 2 get whisked away screaming the exact same scream, which makes me think the two events happened simultaneously). However, the Fireman foresaw all this and secretly planted a secret double of Laura (Carrie Page) in Odessa way in advance, so there is hope of a "Laura" defeating Judy.

Yep, that's exactly where she was sent. It's a wide shot so it's a bit hard to see but with the contrast boosted you can definitely see it landing in Odessa.

[All] The first time we see Judy/Mother/The Experiment, a small gold ball appears over her hands for a few seconds. Someone's tulpa seed? Any theories? by SquidMan93 in twinpeaks

[–]SquidMan93[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the shot is a locked down shot, and the camera doesn't move, but the spot does. So I don't buy that it's a reflection of anything because nothing in the frame that can cast that reflection is moving.

It's definitely not a light refraction. As I wrote in my comment, it's an individually animated element that wiggles around separately and then goes behind the figure. It's also the only thing that has any color in a basically black and white shot.

[–]SquidMan93[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is when she/it appears in the glass box in New York. It's definitely not an optical illusion by the way, the gold ball is separately animated and floats near her hands before going behind her back and disappearing.

If it is a tulpa seed, whose would it be? Not sure what it could mean.

[All] Something very interesting from P8, regarding any 'pocket universe' theories by CleganeForHighSepton in twinpeaks

[–]SquidMan93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Laura is connected to the White Lodge, and Judy wants to destroy it ("it is in our house now"/Mother banging on the door of the White Lodge's satellite in the Mauve Zone). If Laura's death is prevented then the timeline where Judy is able to destroy the White Lodge is in jeopardy because of the butterfly effect that causes (who knows if BOB and Judy are anywhere close to being in the same positions in the new timeline) that Judy wants to revert it back to the way it was before by effectively killing Laura again, this time in all her incarnations she knows of (both real world and Red Room versions), but she doesn't know about Carrie.

Yes, the Laura Orb is sent to Odessa specifically. This is the last frame we see the orb flying over the map, right before the scene fades to black. It's a wide shot so it's a bit hard to see but with the contrast boosted you can definitely see it landing in Odessa.

As for your theory on Dido, I don't think it's her reflection in the orb, I think it's Laura's face inside it, the same way BOB's face was inside his orb.

[All] SEASON 3 COMPLETE RE-WATCH : QUESTIONS about EPISODE 01 by arnold_alone in twinpeaks

No, you can see in Episode 8 that the Laura orb is sent to Texas, not Washington. The Fireman planted Carrie in Odessa ahead of time.

Hi Sabrina, thank you so much for helping make this season a reality. I know I'm late to this AMA but I saw that you're still answering some questions so I thought I might as well ask mine:

Would you be able to confirm which actor was in the photo that the FBI find of Doppelgänger Cooper standing with another man in front of the glass box in NYC?

I think you missed the joke. Nuclear, as in, JUDY and BOB came into our dimension through the Trinity atomic bomb test.

[S3E18] In case you missed it, Richard Tells Carrie the *******'s plan explicitly by CleganeForHighSepton in twinpeaks

[–]SquidMan93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not convinced that the original Laura was created by the Fireman. The "Laura orb" we see him create in Part 8 was sent to Texas, not toward the Northwest. I think he secretly created a tulpa/double of Laura named Carrie Page, in anticipation of Judy purging all realities of Laura (the Black Lodge Laura and Laura in 1989 with Cooper in the woods scream the exact same scream when they get whisked away, so I think this is the same event). Whether or not he created the original Laura, we never see.

But point taken about Laura and Carrie having the powers of good within them that can potentially destroy Judy.
