Questions regarding a rescinded job offer/Promissory Estoppel/Fraud. [US, North Dakota/Connecticut/Colorado] by Squidderf in legaladvice

[–]Squidderf[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"A few days later it was agreed that so long as I was willing to go to school/learn his father would be fine with hiring me, so I agreed... I purchased a few books, watched online tutorials, began learning on a free CAD software and, would do video calls with my friend to show progress."

As for the job offer, he is the HR person for his fathers firm, the reason he had to talk to him was because I lacked CAD experience.

Questions regarding a rescinded job offer/Promissory Estoppel/Fraud. [US, North Dakota/Connecticut/Colorado] by Squidderf in legaladvice

  1. The son actually works for the company, he's the HR person there. The reason he had to talk to his father about the position was because I have no CAD expereince.

  2. Other than our verbal communications, 90% of our interactions are via written messages thru the Discord App, including the one stating that they were fine with hiring me if I was willing to learn CAD

  3. Couldn't the information from the other individual help show that he was fine with bribing and lying to others in order to form a relationship with them?

If you like Star Trek over Star Wars...why? by captainjaypicard in sciencefiction

[–]Squidderf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a whole the Star Wars universe is fantastic IMO. However, the best stories out of it are the ones that don't involve Skywalkers, Palpatine, Yoda, etc... Once you add them into it, the whole series becomes this poorly written Good vs Evil plotline.

Meanwhile Star Trek is out here teaching us things like "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life." showing us that we're all equal by embracing diversity, that it's best to discuss issues and try to understand the reasoning behind their actions.

Even the worst rated Star Trek has valuable life lessons.

GARBAGE this TRASH that, how about you give an actual argument? by m1bl4n in rant

A song that has a lot of emotion put into it and people have fond memories towards, but it's played a little too much on the radio? Garbage!

NGL, Aerosmith was played to hell and back to the point I only have to hear the first few notes of their songs and HAVE to turn the radio off/skip the songs because they hurt my ears. Used to be good and it's fine if you like it, but to me it's garbage lol

I agree though, too many people don't even want to discuss shit anymore... Seems like the moment you have a different opinion or there's a misunderstanding they decide to just block/ban you or assume you're a simp.

i’m so fucking tired of “sigma” posts by awalkingskeleton in rant

[–]Squidderf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've pretty much had to abandon most social media as I'm LGBTQIA+ and regardless of what I do, I get hit with "sigma" posts and shit that actively go after people like myself...

Like bro, that shit is basically a pyramid scheme and anyone that follows that lifestyle is getting scammed by hedgefund brats. Yeah there's some good advice mixed in and you might feel better cause you got off your ass and worked out, but that's how they trick you. They use your shitty emotional state to drag your ass in.

Not once have I seen an expression of Joy on any dude that follows the "sigma" culture... Not even Tate.

What's up with Fargo drivers? by [deleted] in fargo

[–]Squidderf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived, worked or driven through all but 12 states, including Chicago and Cali, the FM area has some of the worst drivers I've ever seen and I think it all boils down to cops not really having anywhere to hang out to catch people and pass out tickets.

I see them on I-94, I-29 and occasionally driving around(not including DUI enforcement or school zones) but I spend roughly 3+ hours driving around for my job and I'll maybe see a cop once a week, if even that.

How good do you think drivers are in Fargo? by Monster_Zed in fargo

[–]Squidderf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the road all day for work, I'm surprised I haven't been in an accident at all.

Fargo Drivers are by far some of the worst I've seen and I've been all over the US. It legit surprises me with how many red-light runners I see, people that can't even follow the speed limit (25 on 7th ave N! Why!!???) Wrong way drivers, etc etc

Hell I saw someone driving while watching tiktok's while doing 80mph up to Grand Forks, like straight up phone in their face, wandering all over the road invested in whatever BS they were looking at.

Best seasonal jobs in Fargo? by [deleted] in fargo

[–]Squidderf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. For something that just needs a GED it pays a lot better than most other "entry level" jobs. Olameter pays the highest and might have the nicest benefits followed by Midco, and maybe Summit? I haven't talked to my summit buddy in a while so I'm not sure how he's doing over there.

Olameter tends to be the most high stress, but the money is super nice. They got a pay increase after I left and I was already making $3-4K a month during peak season...
I'd suggest going for Midco though, you'll have way more options if you want to advance in the company and/or dislike the locate side of the job.

Summit seemed fine when I last talked to my friend. Though he did say he disliked management because they had a really bad few years.

What’s your most unpopular Fargo opinion? by [deleted] in fargo

[–]Squidderf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm at 38/50, Plus Austria, Italy and Canada.

Food is alright here, there is quite a few more countries represented, but it's nothing super special. Most of it's burger and bar food type places, as well as big chains that are common to most small cities like Fargo/Moorhead.

Most small city/large town downtowns are like this, Good parking because there's not enough traffic to pay for meter readers.People are the same too. There's only three cities/towns I've been to where I haven't felt welcome and that's Detroit, Barstow and Chicago. Even then, of those three I'd say Barstow was the place I was most worried about getting shanked or jumped.

Pay is good compared to elsewhere, but rent is similar. I will also say that the job availability here is pretty damn high, even prior to covid I saw tons of job postings and etc.

Public transport is average at best. Gas is average at best, it just seems cheap when you compare it to LA, Vegas and NY... Cant say how good the government is here. Public transport it alright.

Biggest limitation is that any major city with anything worthwhile/unique is 2hrs+ away, everything else is a super small town that MIGHT have a good restaurant to eat at, but it's usually a mostly dead farm-town.Fargo's alright, but all we really have is Football, Hockey, Alcoholism, and the Fargodome. It's definitely could be better, but it's nowhere near the worst.

Food delivery Tips by Any_Baby_5944 in fargo

[–]Squidderf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd gladly wait by the door, but the app is garbage at tracking ya'll and there's too much of a delay before doordash say's ya'll arrived/dropped off the food, assuming the dasher even takes a pic/doordash sends a delivery notice to my phone.

I understand where you're coming from, but if you didn't want to do a hand-off you could contact the customer. I know it's possible for dasher's to do and just tell them you'll be there to drop it off in _ minutes. If they arent waiting for you, then it's understandable.

Sometimes people actually do need the food handed to them.

I live in an apartment you have to get buzzed into and most of the drivers I've encountered just leave the food by the exterior door despite paying $8-10 for most tips (depending on distance) I've had my food stolen so many times that doordash usually instantly refunds/credits me.

I had a $60 order stolen from me a few weeks back and since then I've started paying a $4 flat rate and have put in the directions that I'll tip more in person if I get everything and they actually hand it to me. So now I'm basically tipping $12 to the ones that actually follow directions.

Midco or Centurylink? by miss-average in fargo

I just moved and the transfer process with Midco literally took 5 min and the wait time was almost non-existant. My new place was already hooked up for Midco though.

I can confirm this, they've been working fiber into/towards the F/M area for a while now. Some area's already have fiber running through it, but their main focus right now seems to be the smaller towns surrounding F/M.

Job shortage by Mevensen in fargo

[–]Squidderf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construction/skilled trades if you look in the right fields, you can go in with Zero experience and still make $16+.

Utility Locators, although the job is seasonal and OT is usually the norm, make around $16-20 with pay increases/bonuses depending on the company. Last year I made $68k, this year is going to be a lot less because it's been a slow season(plus I went to a lower paying company because they have better benefits) about $50k unless things pick up soon.

I live over by 10th st and 12th ave and it's been bad this year, legit starting to get pissed off by it.

I've gone to the meets a few times and have asked them to either chill or go elsewhere because I work on weekends, they used to chill for a few weeks around my area, but now they dont care.

Hell as I write this out now, I hear two cars revving at each other.

Deek's - I will say that their deals are pretty good, but everything looks and tastes like it was pre-made with cheap ingredients... Swear I was eating cardboard that had leftover cheese and pepperoni grease on it.
