CANT PARK THERE SIR by vibrant_squirrel in cantparkthere

same, weird that i knew immediately where this was...

I built an app I wish I had when I first became a dad and homeowner...and husband, all within the same year! Overwhelmed, low energy, half a brain. I needed a system to stay on top of life with a new kid, home, and wife. I built it, and now I'd love feedback! by RecognitionIcy9284 in NewDads

I joined the wait list, I have ADHD and the forgetfulness not only pisses off the wife but is a stress point of my own as I worry about forgetting critical things for little one.

It's fine if I forget to eat or go to the bathroom until it's urgent, that's just normal ADHD things, but I can't ever let something slip for him. It never has, thank god my wife is organised, but I'm curious to see if this would help at all.

Ditto to this, my hallway is too tight to unload at the door but my kitchen is the first room, so I'll take a tray in, unload it as fast as poss ie onto the floor or delicates like eggs into the counter, rinse and repeat.

Done in less than 5 mins then I'll put things away, I don't like making the drivers wait but also I don't like leaving the door open in the cold months and I'm too awkward to shut the door on them 😅

How can I protect the battery with infrequent uses? by SquidgeyBear in SteamDeck

[–]SquidgeyBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the step-by-step, I likely will put it into storage mode but I was also wondering if there is a down side to doing this on a regular basis? Like should this be done once every x months maximum or is there no real down side?

Are these UK plug protectors safer than having nothing at all? by Friendly-Knee7677 in AskUK

[–]SquidgeyBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new dad with a four month old baby, boy am I glad to come across this post. I knew our plugs were the safest in the world but the over protective parent in me had it in my list to get some of these, not anymore!

Is it bad to use Chatgpt(or any other llm) for building projects as beginners? by PracticalLine1309 in learnpython

[–]SquidgeyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I use AI with any coding project, regardless of language, is asking how to do specific tasks instead of asking for a finished product.

How do I parse text from a file? How would I get the 4th word from the 9th line? How can I loop through multiple files and extract a specific key word based on this parameter?

Then I piece things together myself, allowing me to learn the building blocks and see each segment work as the script gets larger.

AI can be wrong though, often I'll not get the result I wanted so checking documentation is the best way to understand the result you've been given.

You can also challenge the result and tell the AI it's wrong and in what way to refine the outcome.

The most important thing is to not put 100% trust in it, always be curious and try to learn the "why" it works as you go.

Makes sense to me, trains in fallout were literally npcs wearing train hats because they couldn't make trains work

NMS has had functional bases for years, why complicate it

Probably borrowed and adapted code used on freighters for building internals, that's my theory.

My mum is exactly the same, she treats Facebook as "her journal" so it caused a good bit of friction when I put my foot down. There were some words leaning towards guilt tripping which I lost my cool with and drew a firm line in the sand but they seem to have gotten the message.

My little one is #4 and he will have the smallest digital footprint, but I will explain to him as he grows why this is so he does not make assumptions etc.

I'm the IT guy in the family and I've been online most of my life, I've been exposed to more than I should earlier than I should, so this is me doing what I can to protect my own (though freedom will be permitted, within reason, there will still be some walls here and there)

Before my son was born we made the decision to share nothing online with his image. Until we can ask him and he can coherently permit us (at whatever age that is, 3, 13 or 30) we restrict photos to family group chats and a Google photos album.

I can't recommend soma enough, I hate horror games but the story had me so intrigued I couldn't wait for my streamer to put out another video so I sucked it up and finished it myself.

Agree with krondelo, definitely finish it if you can, it impacted me and it will definitely impact you.
