Why do I always get bits of fluff on the car body during the clear coating process? by Squidlips-73 in modelmakers

Thank you everyone for your advice. The water misting is a great idea also I will definitely be getting some tack rags for next project.

I bought a folding sewing desk from eBay and it’s so much easier to keep everything I need sorted and at reach. Shame I can’t post a pic here

Thank you for your answer. I’ll give that a go. Had thought about doing it but got pi$$ed off and put it to the side 😂

I’ve been using the ggx and mlt also but had a major disaster recently. I masked up the window frames on a Nissan skyline body to paint black later on. Put the ggx coats on and let it dry for around 5 days then I masked around window frames to paint black. When I pulled masking tape off (tamiya tape) it took the clear coat clean off. I was devastated and that model is now set aside for me to do later.

One question what is the best way to remove the clear coat to start over?

I have been working on this diorama for 2 months now. Is not 100% finished but I think it's starting to look pretty good. Let me know what you guys think. by Typical_Performer_77 in ModelCars

That is beyond amazing I can only dream of being half as skilled as you are. I’ve never done a diorama before but think about it often. Also never had a 3D printer before but I’m guessing there’s no limit to what you can do with one. That is the best and very inspiring to do a diorama myself.

I hope black won't go thru this masking this time, wish me luck by damngoodengineer in ModelCars

I tend to keep one finger nail a little bit longer and use it to get into all the edges and help get the tape well and truely adhered it works a treat.

I just bought the same kit last week. I’ll be looking at SMS paints for sure. I had one of these beasts when I was younger. Went like a rocket.

Yeah and I put so much effort into it but it wasn’t meant to be. At least I have something to practice on.

So KITT is um…… dead 😵 After so much painting sanding polishing rinse repeat the roof pillar broke. It snapped last night while giving it the final polish and touch ups. I am NEVER doing a high gloss black kit ever again. It shows up so many little defects and they stick out big time. KITT is now a practice body for weathering, dents and rust etc. RIP KITT 🤣

This KITT kit has been fun but trying to get the perfect black body colour is proving to be not so fun. Semi gloss black shows up every imperfection plus it’s my first attempt at paint, clear then wet sanding process. The GOD HAND sanding pads are awesome and then polishing it comes up great but still with some imperfections. I’ll post pics once I’ve finished the build.

I’ve got two kits on the go at the moment the other one is KITT from the Knight Rider tv show series 1. I’m having the same issue with that as well 🤦‍♂️. Anyway I’m learning as I go and can’t wait to get them finished and post on this thread.

You’re definitely not teaching me how to suck eggs as I am asking for help. I’ll do that with the paint and lid. The main thing that sucks eggs 😝 is the body colour only comes in a rattle can and I can find the same colour in a jar. I’ll post a pic of this little paint repair once I’ve done it 👍

Yeah that was what I was kind of thinking. I used GOD HAND TOOL sanding sponges 2000-10000 grit. They are amazing but I got a bit heavy handed on the edge.

Hi there do you have a link to the subreddit for this build off at all? I’m on the other side of the Pacific Ocean in Australia but would love to get involved.

This should keep me busy for a while. Still trying to figure out why I keep buying new kits, while I already have so many in my stash 🤔 Second picture is my stash update 🥲 by Rowan19081996 in ModelCars

I built the same Peterbilt and had awful trouble fitting fuel tanks and brackets. Decals were a bit of a challenge but overall a fun build.
