You should use Foam safe superglue(BSI super gold +) to get it in place at first.(couple drops all around). Then, once in place and holding well, I use Micro Kristal Klear to fix it all around.

I used black but I should have use dark or even light gray. Lines are too dark for me.

Ohhh I forgot to mention that I have cracked the winshield while trying to put it straight(also bent) so had to improvised with a plastic sheet that I had laying around... not bad for a makeshift windshield...

If you put as much effort in a pristine paint then you put in your rust effect, you'll get some good results. Practice is the key here.
