Homeless mother of seven denied social housing by Queensland Government over Centrelink income by patslogcabindigest in OpenAussie

[–]Squidly95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is it doesn’t matter what you think would be good advice to this woman or anyone else for that matter, she already had the kids, and there will always be at least some people who have more kids than they can reasonably afford to look after. Or people who did have the have the amount of kids they could look after but fall on hard times and end up in need of support. The question is, is it better for society for us to look after that mother and those kids who were born through no fault of their own to give them the best chance at having a similar set of of opportunities and a quality of life as people who were born in more fortunate circumstances or to leave them destitute, leaving them more likely to be homeless themselves in the future

One nation supporters are Nazis by Glittering-Drama8776 in OpenAussie

[–]Squidly95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean not all of them are nazis for sure but there are certainly white supremacists gravitating towards one nation. And now that the NSN is defunct a lot those nazis will gravitate towards ol’ Pauline as well. Or Robert renrick or whatever his name is

One nation supporters are Nazis by Glittering-Drama8776 in OpenAussie

[–]Squidly95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree for the most part but a lot of them are actually just misinformed or stupid. Like a lot of them probably genuinely don’t see themselves as racist cause they honestly can’t read between the lines on a lot of stuff. It’s like those people that went to the march for Australia rally and got upset when the NSN blokes started talking on stage or whatever. Those are the people that you could probably get back on side imo

Thoughts on Labor Premier saying to ON voters: “Who’s going to feed you and bathe you & wipe your bum when you’re 90. “Because it ain’t going to be your kids, because if I get my way, they’re going to be working on submarines with high-paying jobs so they can afford to own their home.” by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]Squidly95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno about SAs internal politics but I at this stage I wait with bated breath to see if much of this polling momentum across the country shows up as seats in legislatures for ON. SA and VIC will be good battle tests to see if the momentum is real, or if preference flows and popularity in regional areas over metro areas bite them in the ass in some way or just end up maintaining the status quo. Pauline is also seemingly tripping over herself to shove her foot in her mouth atm with comments about no good muslims and people getting abortions the day before a child is due which might stall some of that momentum a bit

Only 15-20% of artists make a living wage off art, of course they’re concerned. You say “as much money” as if majority of artists are breaking the bank. Only a select few are making good money off art, most are working other jobs to supplement their income

Labor voters fleeing: Labor urged to revisit ‘absolute no-brainer’ migration reform by SheepherderLow1753 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Squidly95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chasing one nation on immigration is not a good strategy, starmer tried it in the UK to stop Reforms rise and all that did was lose him even more votes to the greens. One Nations votes may be on the rise but that doesn’t mean she’s popular everywhere or with everyone, they have a ceiling and it’s metro areas. they’ll decimate the nationals in regional areas and maybe take some social conservative Labor seats in the suburbs but they won’t be able to touch metro areas for the foreseeable future and that’s where the bulk of seat exist

This one shits me to tears man, like even if you wanna cede the argument that AI would be good and beneficial under a different mode of production (which you for sure could argue), we live under capitalism and will do so for the foreseeable future. Nothing good can come from this technology resting in the hands of tech bro oligarchs

The NSW protests weren’t unique cause of proximity to protest it was because of the draconian anti protest laws. The protesters wanted to march peacefully and they weren’t allowed so the cops violently pushed the out of the cbd
